Sweet Olive Blossom

Baby girl woke up with another super high fever again this morning. It feels like forever ago (honestly, was it 13 hours ago, or 13 days ago?), but I think it was like 105 again. So she had Tylenol and ice water, and then she ate a biscuit and sang along with Baby Shark. Well, she thought she wanted a biscuit, but changed her mind, but I got her to eat an entire applesauce pouch instead.

Since we decided late last night that we weren’t going to be able to make it to the fall festival tonight, I decided to make a nice meal instead. We had planned to eat hot dogs at church, and so I hadn’t added anything to the menu for tonight. But I flipped through Crock-Pot cookbook, and picked out a new recipe to try, so we went to Publix for a few things at 9am. Which was the perfect time to go, because no one is up & moving on the college side of town at that time of day, and even more so on a Sunday, the day after a home FSU game. So it was super duper easy and fast and practically empty. Emmie wanted to wear her jammies, but she chose to put on sneakers with the PJ’s.

I gave her one of my purses that she loves to carry around, so she took it shopping with us. She found an extra paci in there, and this squishy little dino!

I drank another cup of coffee while getting dinner set up in the crock-pot. I made the one on the right, the Golden Pork with Cinnamon-Sugar Apples. It only needed a few ingredients, and they were very easy steps, and I had most of the things already. I still had a couple of Honey Crisp apples, so I used those instead of the Granny Smith, but it came out super yummy!

Emmie and Daddy were so sweet all snuggled up on the couch together, and when I came and joined, she scooted over and snuggled with me some. We tried to get her to take an early nap, but she didn’t want to, so we just sat calmly watching some of her favorite song videos.

She had a little bit of rice for lunch, but she hasn’t really been eating much.

She played for a little bit after her lunch, and then I put her down for her nap. I ran to Walmart for our usual grocery pick-up order (which I love because I don’t even have to get out of my car), and then grabbed lunch for Jeff and I from Taco Bell on my way home.

We ate together and then I washed dishes while he did some of his on-the-side computer work. Emmie only slept for about an hour and a half, and woke up hot & sweaty and upset. We cuddled in Mommy’s bed together, then Daddy came to love on our girl too. We got her to drink some ice water, and take more meds, and then she was ready to actually get up and moving.

When my parents drove through Laurel, MS over the summer, they got me a goody bag from the @laurelmercantile, because they know how much I love @erinapier & @scotsman.co and their show, Home Town. One of the things they got me was the Sweet Olive Blossom scented candle, that I’m obsessed with (I’ve been burning it sparingly, to make it last longer). You have no idea how excited I was when just yesterday (after three years in this house), I discovered I have a sweet olive tree right outside my backdoor! I picked a couple branches, and put them in water in this hand-me-down teapot from my Grandmother, and it’s making me so happy, and making my house smell so nice. (Wrote this Instagram post while sitting on the back patio, right next to my sweet olive tree, breathing deeply while my cute toddler chats my ear off.)

She wanted to go walk around outside, and was calling for Pretzel to come over and play.

She decided she’d rather move her chair to the patio, and asked Mommy for some ice in a cup.

We started walking around the backyard some more, and she picked something up and started putting it in her mouth. I grabbed for her to stop her (it could have been dog poop for all I know!?) and I scared her and she freaked out and started crying. We sat down in the grass for me to calm her down, and she just wanted to hold Mommy. We started walking inside and she tripped over the thresh hold, and got started crying again. I scooped her up and held her for a bit, and she calmed down after a few minutes. Poor girl was just very sensitive and easily upset today.

Then I felt like a really awesome Mommy, when I made her her own little rice bin like she plays in at school! I got a $1 bag of rice, and mixed it with a half of bag I found in the back of the cabinet, and then just stuck in some small random things I found around the house. And we sat outside with her playing in it for at least 30 minutes! She was perfectly happy and messy the whole time, and I was (mostly) fine with all the rice everywhere 😉 No but really, I kept picking it up when she would tip out large amounts, but I mostly let her just do what she wanted with it.

And then we came inside, right as our special guest came over for dinner. I told Emmie that someone was coming over to eat with us, and she said, “hmmmmm… Grandmommie!?!” And when I said yes, she was so excited!

Grandmommie told her a story or two, and Emmie just sat with her listening so sweetly and intently the whole time. Whenever she finished, Emmie said, “Another story, Ganmommy!” So Grandmommie ended up telling her a LOT of different stories, some that she made up, some about Goldilocks, and some of her own real stories from her childhood.

She did some grocery shopping while I cooked dinner…

The crock-pot apple pork…

…with sauteed Brussels sprouts…

…a giant pan of rice pilaf… (I wanted plenty of leftovers!)

…plus crescent rolls, and chocolate chip cookies for dessert! I really feel like I went all out! I was pretty proud of myself, honestly.

This meal turned out so good! I loved the pork, and the cinnamon apples on top were just different and unique, and I really enjoyed it. And the gingerale was really good too. I hate that we missed going to both our fall festival at Bradfordville and Meg & Bo’s at Generations, but having a nice meal with our little family made up for it a little bit.

Grandmommie headed home after we finished dinner, so that she could make it home back home before it got too late. (I can’t remember if I’ve mentioned, but my parents have been out of town since Thursday, and don’t get back till Tuesday, so Grandmommie has been on her own for a few days.)

Emmie was started getting fussy towards the end of dinner, and hardly ate anything. Her fever was coming back, so after a few more videos and some ice water, we got her some night time meds and started the bedtime routine.

She started falling asleep on Daddy, while just sitting there giving him hugs.

I did her lullabies and rocked her for a bit, and then laid her down in her crib. I had a ton of dishes to wash, but I got them all done, and got the trash ready for Jeff to take out.

Since Emmie has now had a fever for pretty much the last three days straight, we’re taking her into the doctor’s office in the morning. There may be nothing they can do, but we want to take her in just to be safe.

I actually hear her starting to cry again, so we’re going to have to try to get her back to sleep again. Praying hard that we can get her back to sleep, and that she sleeps through the night.
