Sunday Snooze-Day

(Post for Sunday, 8/7/22; title chosen by Jeff😉.)

We went back to Generations Church again yesterday, and really enjoyed it again.

To be honest and transparent, we had been thinking of visiting here more frequently recently, and just finally decided to go for it after Mega Sports Camp a few weeks ago. We’ve felt a little unsettled with church stuff for a while, but it’s taken us some time to take that leap and dive into change.

Both girls have loved it there these last few weeks too, especially Emerson. She has really blossomed there very quickly, and I’ve been so proud of her.

Bo sent me this after church, and it was so sweet, and proof that she’s doing so well there already.

We put in an order at our Chinese take-out place near the house, and picked it up on the way home, and we all feasted on delicious chicken & rice.

We had a little bit of playtime and reading time after lunch, and then Emerson and I spent a good long while organizing, folding, hanging and putting away all of her new back-to-school clothes from our shopping trips with Grammy and Nana over the past few weeks.

Then after Jeff rocked Addison to sleep and laid her down, he laid down on the couch, and I laid down in our bed. Emerson decided she wasn’t tired and didn’t want to nap, so she stayed up and played on her Kindle for a bit. But then when I walked into the living room later when I woke up, I found her asleep on the floor next to him, with no blanket or pillow or anything! Apparently she had gotten upset at some point when she realized everyone else was asleep, cuddled with him on the couch for a bit, but then ended up just laying down on the floor and falling asleep. I put a blanket over her, and she stayed asleep for a little while longer. She was just so pitiful on the floor like that!

After we all woke up from our late afternoon naps, the girls were playing in Addison’s room, and while scrolling Instagram, I realized we had totally forgotten about the Gilchrist kindergarten splash party that afternoon. It felt like a total mom-failure, and as Emerson cried and had a total meltdown, I wanted to cry myself. I just know it would have been food for her to spend time on the campus, and meet some new friends, and I hated that we missed it. So as she was calming down, she “needed something special, just for her,” so she convinced us to go to Culver’s, so she could have ice cream for dessert. Didn’t take much arm-twisting, because this Mama just wanted to do something to make it up to her!

Good grief I wish my curls and color looked like this! 😍 It’s beautiful!

We had a little bit of playtime when we got home, and then got almost straight into the bedtime routine, since it was a little later than usual. Emerson told me she wanted to take some selfies, so I handed her my phone and she took about 10 of them 😁

Addison woke up crying about 30 minutes after Jeff had laid her down, so while he was back to working on our computer issues, I got lots of good, sleepy cuddles while rocking her back to sleep again.

Unfortunately, he couldn’t get the computer functioning last night in time for me to write this post. And even still, it’s taken all day to try to get things in order. I actually wrote this on my phone (he did some magic to get the photos in the post), and he’s still working on the computer. Hopefully I’ll be able to write tonight’s post a little later, after I wash the dishes…
