Usually, on a “normal” Sunday, we don’t ever eat breakfast at home. Partly because we don’t have time, but mostly because our Sunday school class all takes turns making & bringing breakfast for everyone each week. But today, since our worship services are all still online-only, we had breakfast at home together.
Granted, I made the easiest thing possible, since my foot was actually hurting pretty badly when I woke up this morning. Turns out, it wasn’t hurting so much last night, because the lidocaine hadn’t yet worn off, but it started doing so around bedtime, and then it was stiff when I get out of bed. So scrambled egg & cheese bagels was just the ticket! (Also, as I was falling asleep last night, I realized I had actually gotten stitches before, when I got that cyst cut off my chest last summer. I had totally forgotten about it yesterday! Oopsies.)
And then we did a Zoom meeting with our Sunday school class, and Jeff got this whole thing set up for us, complete, with the lamp with the shade removed, so we had nice lighting on our faces. And our fellow class-mates did in fact comment on our nice video lighting, so Jeff felt very proud of himself
We had to meet the video a few times here and there so we could talk to Emerson or remind her not to be super loud, but overall, it was a great experience, and we loved getting to “see” our friends & teachers, and hear their voices. And Emerson actually did really well overall! She mostly played all over the front of the house, but crawled up at the table at the very end as we were wrapping up & starting to sign off.
And then we moved to the living room, to cast the livestream of our worship service, and that was really nice too. Today was actually our first Sunday during this pandemic worshiping from home, as we were on the team for our first online-only Sunday, then travelling last week.
After church ended, we had another great video call with Megan & the babies, and we got to see Kensley walking all over the place, and Riley said “Ry-Ry,” and Ellie squealed back at Emerson, and they were just so cute! (That’s Ellie in the screenshot below.)
Emmie had some lunch right at noon, and then I worked on getting her down for nap time. She laid down quietly for about 30 minutes, but we’re not sure she was ever actually asleep… I went back in a little while later, song one more lullaby, and laid her back down.
Then we made some nachos with the leftover taco meat Nita sent home with us last night, and we shared this for our lunch. But pretty quickly, we heard her chatting and singing and flopping all over the place, So I’m thinking she didn’t really sleep much at all.
But then we had a great afternoon, with all sorts of family time and play time, and just hung out enjoying our time together! This was the first day in I-can’t-even-remember-how-long that we’ve stayed home for an entire day, and not done anything, and it was so weird and but kinda nice.
She was sitting here next to me, just quietly making food in her truck and having a tiny tea party. When all of sudden, she looked up at me and said, “Mommy, where’s da hexagun?” I leaned forward and was like, “Wait, what, excuse me?!” I had know idea she knew what a hexagon was!? I was blown away!
And since we procrastinated in taking down the Advent coloring calendar, it provided us another activity today. And then we ended us just sitting and playing in the hall, with a 3-week-old birthday balloon from the triplets. Which was all fun & games, until the confetti balloon randomly popped, and it went all over the place! But luckily, it was a great time to put to good use Emerson’s tiny little clean-up set Grandmommie got her for Christmas.
And the in the late afternoon, it was absolutely beautiful and perfect outside, so we got out of the house, but only as far as the front yard. And it was lovely! I loved watching Jeff and Emerson together, and just felt so happy and content.
Jeff had a craving for fish & chips (after watching a travelling couple on YouTube eat it the other night), so we had planned to get take-out from Wahoo Grille. But then at the last minute, I finally saw the notice on their website that they have been closed since last Friday. So instead we got Captain D’s, and it was really underwhelming. I don’t think I liked it the last time we got it either, so I’ll have to veto that the next time it comes up…
Dinner was followed by jammies and go-gurt and books and bedtime. And also a lot of super sweet little hugs and loves and lullabies.
I took it easy most of the day, because my foot was hurting and it was uncomfortable to walk too much, but it felt really weird to NOT be doing chores or working on my list or getting things accomplished. But on the other hand, I guess it was pretty nice too.
