Sleepover at our Neighbor’s House

Sooo this is a double post for Thursday and Friday, because of some weird events on Thursday night. But first, even though Addie was a bit grump at home for sister pics, she was happy by the time we made it to school. And Emmie was excited to wear her class tshirt, because their class sang the school song for the rising kindergarten orientation.

Right as I picked up Emerson yesterday, I finished up my audio book, and it was so good. Then coincidentally, the very first trailer for the movie came out today, and that was super good too.

The weather was terrible last night, and we even had some tornados touch down in the surrounding areas. We made it home safely though, and made ravioli and garlic bread for dinner. Then as we were finishing our very last bite, our power starting being really weird.

At first, it didn’t go completely out, but it was like flickering and seemed weak. Like, our lights were all about half-brightness, even though they didn’t have dimmer switches, you know what I mean… Then eventually things just slowly stopped working and started clicking and flashing and being just so strange.

There weren’t any breakers flipped, but Jeff tried flipping them to test. Then he checked something outside, and still nothing. But the meter outside wasn’t even on. So he called the utility people, and they didn’t know what was happening but said they’d send out a team. By this point, it was like 8pm, and it was the girls’ bedtime. It was getting pretty dark in the house by then (the girls had been watching Emmie’s Kindle under a blanket fort), and it was starting to get hot without the air conditioner.

And even with all the weirdness going on with our power and the crazy weather, we noticed a very orange-y color to the sky out the windows, so I went to go check, and was amazed to see this beautiful double rainbow! (Make sure to look hard for the much more subtle rainbow on top.)

I had texted our neighbors next door to check on them, and they weren’t having any issues. They’re a super sweet older couple (that actually used to know my grandparents way back in the day!), and they very generously offered for us to come stay the night in their two empty bedrooms for the night. We debated for a while trying to figure out the best option, but ultimately we knew it would be a rough night with no night-lights, and no sound machines, and no air conditioning…

So we took them up on their offer, packed up some essentials, and went right next door, finally making it over there around 9pm. The girls were a bit delirious by then, and running around their house and flopping around on the giant king-sized bed. Eventually, we did get them both settled down for sleep. Jeff and Addie slept in one bed together (with a giant pillow wall to keep Addie penned in), and Emmie and I slept in one bed together. Both girls were so sweet and precious, and we all slept pretty good.

We were all up around 6am, and Ms. Annie Ruth was cutting up pieces of cantaloupe for Emmie for a morning snack. We all got dressed and ready for work and school, and then packed up again. We stopped by the house before going our separate ways, and the power was back to normal! We have no idea when it came back on, but we’re very thankful that it did, and that it wasn’t anything more serious!

Addie and I made a random gas station stop on our way this morning, to pick up some coffee for me, and it played this video thing, and she thought that was the coolest.

Emmie is still smiling in order to show off that little hole where her tooth is missing. She’s so funny about it.

And since I didn’t pack myself anything for lunch today, I (very easily) talked my friend Heather into going out. I saw this Nashville Hot pizza from Uncle Maddio’s in a Tally Foodies Facebook post the other day, and couldn’t stop thinking about it… So we both got that pizza today, I added extra pickles and extra hot honey sauce, and it was a seriously delicious. I wanna eat it again already.

And then coincidentally, we had pizza again for dinner tonight, a frozen deep dish one that’s also super yummy.

Then we took a quick family trip to Walmart for a few random things, and even though we were at risk of an almost-bedtime freak-out, we all made it, and we all did well.

And then it was time for a late bedtime when we got back home. So we got started on that right away, and got the girls down easily. It was a super crazy day at work (and so was yesterday for that matter), so my brain is fried now. Need to just veg out and watch some tv for a little while, before time to sleep….
