We’ve been working hard today! A few weeks ago, we got a new-to-us used trundle bed and a dresser from a friend of Nana’s. We finally really got moving on things this past week during the snow days, and we kicked it into high gear today. Starting with, moving Emerson’s old toddler bed into Addison’s room, and now she’s got her own big girl bed, that she’s very excited about. When she saw us working on it, she said, “Thank you, THANK you, THANK YOU!!”
And here we were in the middle of Emerson’s room re-do, after lots of clean-up had already started, without the old bed. Yikes.
Actually, here’s the true “before” photo, which is so embarrassing and I’m only sharing so you’ll truly appreciate all we did once you see the “after.”
After a couple of hours of work this morning, we headed out to Jersey Mike’s for lunch. I saw a viral video the other day of the best tuna sandwich order and I just had to try it. And yes, it was absolutely delicious.
And wouldn’t you know, there is still snow & ice lingering around, and yes we still have to check it out every time we see it. Even if it it’s super slippery and we almost bust our booties (surprisingly, that was Emerson, not me).
Quick trip to Home Depot for some paint supplies, and some pretend tractor test drives.
It was nap time for Addie Pie when we got home, and although she “wasn’t tired” (as she never ever is), she was excited to lay down in her big girl bed. And after about 20 minutes of flip-flopping, I did finally get her to calm down and fall asleep.
Meanwhile, Nana had come over to help us out with our projects around the house today. So Nana and I worked on deep-cleaning allllll of Emerson’s room, down to every last dust-bunny and grain of sand that had fallen through carpet.
And Jeff was up front cleaning and chalk-painting this dresser we also got with the bed. This is real, solid wood, but unfortunately someone else had already painted it a weird creamy color, that wasn’t even in good shape anymore. So we just made our own DIY chalk paint with a white in the shade of “Silver Feathers.”
Once Addison woke up, she helped herself to a few accessories she found in Emerson’s room, and was just so cute and silly in her get-up.
And then we finally got her new bed set up and her room rearranged and put back together! We wanna paint this bed too, but it’s fine for now, and we’ll get to it eventually… maybe. Hopefully. But she loves the new bed, and she loves the new arrangement, and she’s just so proud! We’re going to get her a real comforter and sheet set now too, but she’s happy with it for now.
Most of the “junk” that doesn’t have a home is just kinda piled up on top of her toy chest (probably need to purge more of that), and although the rest of the room is so neat and tidy, this is kinda messy. So Emmie’s solution was to throw a thin muslin donut blanket over the whole thing to just hide it. And honestly, I like it 🙂
It was 6pm by the time we finally finished the last bits of Emmie’s room, and I was way too tired to cook. So we invited Nana to go to dinner with us at Culver’s, with this super cute and very stylish toddler.
Emerson was so sweet and ready to hang out in her room tonight for bedtime. She was so cute sitting up in bed, reading her little book, just being such an adorable bookworm. After we went through her usual bedtime routine, she was still having a hard time falling asleep. So I told her she could stay up reading later until she felt sleepy. I went back to check on her like 15 minutes later, and she was like, “Well, I just got to a good point, so I wanna keep reading.” Then when Jeff went to check on her 10 minutes after that, she was like, “Well, I’m in the middle of a page, so I better keep reading.” So she read for like 30 minutes, and then came and hung out with us for like 30 minutes, and it was after 10pm by the time we finally got her to just lay down and she easily fell asleep then.
We’re both exhausted from all the work we did today. But we still have an early morning tomorrow, and lots more work today to get everything finished up just in the girls’ rooms. And as my Grandmother correctly guessed when I sent pictures in the group text, the rest of the house is still a total disaster. But it’s now almost 11pm, and we’re totally done for the night…
