Rainy Day of Rest & Relaxation

Jeff got up early with Emmie and let me sleep a bit longer, and then when I woke up I was surprised to find I had lost my voice! That hadn’t happened in years, and my throat wasn’t that bad and I was barely coughing, so that was certainly surprising. It actually came back during the day, but I still sound weird tonight.

While Jeff showered for church, I got my little girl dressed in her pretty Christmas dress, and she did the advent calendar and found Sheppy.

She did some water painting for just a few minutes, and the I sent the two of them off to church, and I stayed home to rest and recuperate from my sinus/cold issue I’ve had for the last few days.

I found enough energy to make myself a scrambled egg sandwich and a hot tea, and then plopped down on the couch for the next few hours, in the dark, quiet house, with the rainy, dreary weather outside.

Jeff and Emmie made a quick visit to Grammy & Papa’s house so she could see them and Grandmommie (they did church at home today). Emmie fell asleep on the car ride home, but Jeff stopped for BK burgers to bring home, and she decided to wake up for lunch.

Then all three of us slept from 2:15-4:15pm. On super tired, rainy days, the parents nap while the child naps! She wanted to watch a movie and cuddle when she woke up, and of course that sounded like a great idea to me too.

After a while, we went back to her room to play, and she was being so silly and goofy, and just entertaining herself so well. And while I’m thinking about it, here are a few funny things she’s said lately that I’ve texted myself, but forgot to share in the blog…

(Listening to Christmas music in the car…) Emmie: “Do you know her Mommy?” Me: “Haha, no baby, but her name is Carrie Underwood.” Emmie: “Well go to her office and met her sometime, kay?” (And that’s not a typo, she said “met” her, not “meet” her.)

(Getting ready for bed last night…) Emmie: “I wanna tell you something… ready, steady, go – trees grow!”

(While playing I spy in the living room today…) Emmie: “I spy somethiiiiiinnggg… Pretzel!”

(Getting ready for bed a few nights ago, talking about her school besties…) Emmie: “William like snacks. He likes water. He likes books, but he flops around. At school they say ‘don’t flop around.’ They say they like me and I like ’em. I like him but I’m his best. I tried to tell Andrew that Elsa sings ‘Let It Go,’ but he says no no no no. I tried to tell Andrew that I went to sleep like this (closes eyes and flops down dramatically), but he says no no no no.”

(Can’t remember the context, but I think it was when Kensley was sick a few weeks ago…) Emmie: “Police help people when they need it, like doctors. Like Dr. Abby! She also helps with ear infections and has the medicines.”

After a bit of playing together, I went to the kitchen to wash dishes and “cook” dinner. I came back to check on her about halfway through that, and this is how I found her… With just about every blanket she owns all over her floor, with a baby under each one of them. She was being the teacher, and had put everyone down for nap, and was just chillin’ while they napped, like her teachers do, she said.

Jeff was helping a friend of his with some computer stuff tonight, so I made a small thing of Trader Joe’s butternut squash ravioli for Emmie and I. (That’s why I put “cook” in quotes above, because all I did was boil water, add pasta, then top with butter & parmesan cheese.) But hey, it was yummy! Emmie didn’t love it though, so I made her a PB&J, and then we shared a few kiwi together.

After dinner, we snuggled for a bit more on the couch watching a movie, and then I got her to help clean up her room. She brought all the blankets to me and piled them up, put her babies away, and then actually helped fold some blankets too! She’s actually pretty good at it, just very slow, so she only folded three, while I folded about 10 🙂

Daddy got home right after we ate dinner, so he was there for bedtime stories and the whole bedtime routine.

She went down easily, but then kept calling Daddy back to her room, while I hopped in the shower. (I literally never shower at night, but I was feeling in need of one tonight, and I already know I need to leave earlier than usual tomorrow for school, to grab some DD gift cards for teacher gifts.) By the time I finished getting dressed though, she was quiet and almost asleep.

I’m heading off to make my third cup of hot tea for the day (it’s a good thing I only ever buy/drink caffeine free tea!), and then head to bed. All this rest has been good for me today, and I’m feeling better. My pressure headache has finally gone away, and for that I’m truly thankful. I’m a serious wimp when it comes to headaches, and I don’t handle them well. But I do feel better now, so hopefully this little cold has almost run it’s course, and I’ll be all better soon!
