Quiet Day for Three

Yesterday was a very busy, very loud, very chaotic Christmas, spent with about 20 other people. Today, Jeff had to go back to work, so it was just me and the girls at home all day, with just us, super chill, hanging out. A quiet day for three girls. We had a very slow, very lazy morning, with leftover casserole for breakfast from the other day, then I just let the girls play and do whatever they wanted, pretty much. And I got the kitchen cleaned up, which had been a cluttered, untidy mess before this.

This girls set up this teepee in Addie’s room all on their own, put on new clothes they got yesterday, and had a little tea party with a cute mermaid tea set Addie got yesterday.

I made simple grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch, but put pepperoni on mine, and dipped in marinara, for a pizza grilled cheese.

Addie took a short little nap, and I took a shower, and Emmie made her own little craft time. Then we had a lazy couple of hours after Addie woke up, because she was actually still really sleepy, and we all just laid on the couch all cuddled up together under a blanket, watching some mermaid show on Netflix. Well, I was reading the whole time, and almost finished a whole book on my Kindle today. Even Pennie was on the couch under the blanket with us!

The dining room looked like the typical post-Christmas disaster zone, so I had Emmie help me get everything cleaned up late this afternoon.

But in full transparency, all we did was relocate everything to the other side of the dining room, in a neater pile, which we will still have to deal with at some point eventually…

But at least with the table all cleaned off and set nicely again, we were able to eat dinner at the table all together.I made the TikTok viral Turkish pasta again tonight for me and Jeff, and just some butter noodles for the girls. Plus a bagged Caesar salad kit on the side, that Emerson actually put together for me.

Emmie finished eating earlier than Addie, so Addie came to sit by me to finish. I hand-fed her a few more bites of noodles, playing around and doing airplanes and trains and helicopters and birds, flying all the noodles into her mouth. She was being extremely sweet and loving and she put her tiny arms around my neck, buried her face into me, and said, “You’re the best mommy ever,” while “Promises” played on the Bluetooth speaker, and I teared up at the perfect little moment. She is very much a Daddy’s girl, so this was extra special coming from her. This picture was with a giant soft peppermint stuffed into her cheek after she finished her dinner, just hanging out quietly with Mama, still being the sweetest ever.

We spent some time cleaning up the front bedroom after dinner, which we usually let get super cluttered with junk all through the year. But this coming Saturday, Jeff’s boys, Ryan & Gabe, will be coming down to spend a week with us, and that’s they’re room when they’re here, so we had some stuff to take care of.

Then we went through the usual bedtime routine with the girls, and got them both to sleep. We’re still watching Christmas movies as long as our Christmas decor is up, so I think it’s time for some hot tea and another movie!

Update – I ended up just finishing that book I was reading 😊
