Plaid, Books & Dumplings

I love this precious little red & black plaid outfit, and since it was so chilly today, it was perfect for the cool weather!

She said she needed to make some tea to go with her muffin, and I was so proud of my girl 🙂

Remember when I read & watched Annihilation a few weeks back? Well, the author lives here in Tallahassee (I think I mentioned that), so the Leon County Library is doing a National Endowment for the Arts “Big Read,” which is a program encouraging an entire community to all read the same book, and they’re using his book, “Borne.” In so doing, the library has been giving away free copies! I actually stopped at the NE branch last night on the way to church to grab one, but they were all out. So I called the south-side branch this morning, and they still had a few. So I went on my lunch break to pick up a free book! And I just had to check out the “new arrivals” shelf while I was there, and I ended up stumbling on three books which all sound perfect for my tastes.

Then I grabbed nachos from Taco Bell, and sat in the parking lot with the windows cracked, listening to my audio book. Quiet, alone, reading/eating time was perfect for me today, because I had kind of a rough morning… (Everything is fine, and I don’t even need to mention it, but it was nice to sit by myself for a while before heading back to the office.)

I absolutely loved seeing these photos of Emerson and one of her little friends at school today! They got to lay under a table and color on the floor, and it looks like they were having a blast!

But excuse me! The way she’s looking over at him in this one below?! She needs to chill out! But it’s super sweet.

The afternoon at work was absolutely crazy, but I made it! And I got to leave on time and didn’t get held up late, so that’s always a good thing. I picked up Emerson after school, and we headed home. We were actually both wearing our red & black plaid today, so we attempted a selfie at home, and this is the best we could do.

Nana came over to have dinner with us tonight, and we had another Trader Joe’s Chinese Food feast, with veggie fried rice, chicken dumplings, chicken pot stickers and chicken spring rolls. So much yummyness! See the four tiny little round dumplings on the bottom right of my plate? Emerson ate like 10 of them! I started her off with two on her plate, then we all gave her some off of our plates, and eventually had to go get a few more from the kitchen. The girl loves her dumplings!

She didn’t eat anything else on her plate, but she sure went to town on the little dumplings!

After getting Emerson in her jammies for the night, she felt the need to do some “vacuuming” with her headphones on, and she was literally cracking me up, because she was just being so funny about it!

She ran around like a crazy child for a while, hopping and skipping and just being absolutely silly, purposely trying to keep herself awake. I told her she needed to calm down though, and to pick one book to read with Nana before she had to leave. She chose the three little piggies, and even helped with the finger puppets for a bit, until she wanted Mommy to do the Big Bad Wolf instead.

She did alright at bedtime, although we did have one small meltdown, because she kept wanting to play with her animals and babies and wasn’t listening to us, and then got mad at us about it… We calmed her down though, and lullabies went well, and she was sound asleep super fast after that, because she only napped for 33 minutes today! For the past day or so, she’s had some sinus drainage that is worse when she lays down, and makes her cough, so she coughed herself awake way too early from her nap. We remembered to give her some children’s claritin at bedtime though, and I think that seems to be helping, because I haven’t heard her cough since I laid her down. So I’m hoping and praying it helps her sleep well, and sleep through the night!
