So with daycare being closed today (for an unknown amount of time at this point), Jeff and I will be just tag-team taking care of the tiny Tater Tot, and try our best to make it through at least this week. So, he worked from home for the morning, while I took care of and played with Emerson… And so today was Emerson’s first day of in-home daycare!
She said she was sweeping Pretzel…
I painted my fingernails last night after she was in bed, but left it out on the coffee table. So when she saw it this morning, she just had to have the same blue color that Mommy had! But I did her toes instead of fingers, because she is still wayyy too wiggly for fingers. (Her toes still get messed up anyways, but oh well.)
I left her in her room playing with this little button game/toy thingy, and went to go do something (I forget what?), and when I got back, she had already figured out how to change the little picture sheet, and had started on another one all on her own!
She read me a couple of books while I sat in the glider folding all of her clean clothes. (That was a task on my weekend to-do list that we never got around to. I’m slowly, oh-so-slowly making my way through a few of the items, like I also filled out the 2020 Census this morning, which was also on my weekend to-do list.)
She had last night’s leftover chicken & cheese noodles for her lunch today, and then I had to get dressed and ready to head into the office. And I made myself a delicious iced coffee to take with me, because that one mug that I didn’t even finish earlier was not enough.
Ok quick interjection, because on this date last year, Emerson met her baby triplets for the first time, and it was so stinking precious!
Jeff did nap time with her after I left, but he later told me she just laid there awake most of the time, saying over & over, “I want my Mooommyyy, not my Dadddyyyy.” So apparently that’s two days in a row without a real nap. Phew, that’s no bueno. She’s definitely not the kind of kid that can manage without a nap, so by 6pm-ish, she’s usually struggling & quite cranky!
They actually had to go on a little car trip this afternoon. Jeff does some IT work for a church-friend’s (Eddie) business, so they went to pick up a laptop to do some work on from home. While they were there, Emerson like their rose bushes, so Eddie gave her one, and she really enjoyed it.
Anyways, Jeff did the afternoon shift with Emmie, and I did my time at work, staying until 6pm, to get in just one more hour of work, to off-set my time off this morning. (We’re planning on doing this same schedule tomorrow as well, and then we’ll re-evaluate for the rest of the week, hoping we hear some news from daycare by then, as to whether or not they’ll re-open soon.) I planned one of the most simple dinners since I got home later than usual, but hot dogs are really good every now & then!
While I was cooking, Jeff and Emerson worked on removing all the banana plant leaves from the backyard. After dinner, all three of us went back out to finish up. We have to load up all the stalks and dead leaves in the wheelbarrow, and then take it down the street and around the corner, to the yard-trash-pick-up-spot in our front yard. It took about four or five trips total, but it’s all cleaned up now! And that’s one more thing we get to cross off of our list of last weekend’s chores!
After finishing up outside (to be clear, I did NOT use the machete again; I was in charge of the much less dangerous rake this time), we all came inside and washed up. And since everyone else in the world appears to be baking their way through this pandemic, I decided to hop on board as well. Last spring, I got really into baking this super simple bread recipe, but I haven’t done it it quite a while. So I pulled everything out tonight, and let my little helper hop up on her stool, and we got a loaf of bread started! It’ll have to sit overnight, then proof for an hour in the morning, and then we’ll bake it and eat warm delicious bread!
After finishing up the bread (she was so interested in watching me, and helping me, and she was very calm and chill and just so cute about helping me), we got ready for bed. She was very thorough with her night-time moisturizer toinight, making sure to get all the right spots.
She was exhausted after not really sleeping at nap time today, and after a little bit of craziness and hyperactivity, we got her calmed down, and she was limp in my arms really quickly. I’m once again choosing not to do the dishes tonight, mostly because there aren’t that many of them right now, and I just don’t want to. So instead, it’s time for an episode or two of Jeopardy on Hulu, before bedtime.
