Patti LaBelle Pie

Today’s breakfast was “crunch crunch” all around, with super cold water on the side.

Emmie likes to drink her milk with a spoon, and wanted to drink mine today too.

She was longingly looking out the back door at how wet everything was with all the rain, and wishing we could go outside to play. We kept her busy enough indoors, until it was time for a quick car ride to pick up our Walmart grocery order.

On our way back home, Daddy decided we needed donuts as a mid-morning snack, and Emerson perked up super fast to request a pink one with sprinkles!

Since it was still rainy and wet, we backed our cars out of the carport, so that we could spend a little time in the fresh outdoors, playing with chalk and doing bubbles feeling the sprinkles.

I came back inside while Daddy and Emmie did bubbles, to get our dinner in the crock-pot. I used a veggie beef soup recipe I’d made before, but used meatballs instead, as a little experiment.

We had grilled cheese sandwiches for lunch again today, and I finished up the last of my homemade tomato soup. (I like dropping a few croutons in it too.)

Emmie went down really easily for her nap time, and then Jeff and I ended up napping too. The rainy, dreary weather was perfect for afternoon naps, and we just couldn’t resist the temptation of a nap ourselves!

Emmie had to change clothes after her dress got covered in chalk this morning, and she chose this Star Wars shirt, when she remembered, “Andrew and William Like Star Wars!” After she woke up, the three of us spent time cleaning up the house and doing our chores (dishes, tidying, cleaning, scrubbing, etc.), before we had a little bit of time to rest and play, while we waited on our dinner guests to show up…

I bought this cute little cream-colored pitcher for $1 at the thrift shop yesterday. I’ve just recently started following a new-to-me account on Instagram, Myquillyn @TheNester. I had heard of one of her books, Cozy Minimalist Home, but didn’t really know much about her. She has a brand new book about decorating for the holidays, and I’ve seen lots of people sharing her and her book lately, so that’s why I finally started following her. She’s big on “foraging” and using greens and plants you find in your yard as decoration, so Emerson went outside with me in the sprinkles to cut these little branches from one of our trees, and I love how it turned out! (I’m not really ready to bust out all the pumpkins and hoopla, but this tiny taste of fall is enough for me right now.)

Oh, and our dinner guests were my parents and Grandmommie! I made the giant pot of soup, plus side salads and garlic bread, and everything was really yummy. The meatballs subbed for stew beef turned out really good, and was a very easy, dump & go situation.

I didn’t make Emerson her own salad, but she helped herself to quite a few bites of Grammy’s salad instead.

She found a soft peppermint in Grammy’s purse, and thought it was the best dessert. She also thought it was very funny that she had it stuck in one cheek and poking out so far.

Emmie may have only wanted a soft peppermint for dessert, but we had Ms. Patti LaBelle’s sweet potato pie from Walmart, and goodness gracious that little thing was delicious.

Grammy helped Emerson get her jammies on and brush her teeth, and then we gave hugs and said our goodbye’s and waved as they honked and drove away. We snuggled for just a few minutes watching “Brave,” and then started on Emerson’s bedtime routine. She was really good tonight, and things went really smoothly.

We had about a million dirty bowls after dinner tonight, so I got all of those washed up, plus some of the other dirty dishes in the sink from throughout the day. It’s time now to rest and relax and prepare for another week.
