Murder on the HMS Hope

Today (Saturday), was my sister Megan’s birthday. So for her birthday party, they hosted a super fun murder mystery game night. It’s a store-bought game set on a cruise ship in the 1910’s, so we all put on costumes from a century ago, and gathered to solve a murder! For this first photo, no one smiled, since they used to always take pictures very straight-faced.

Then we took a photo kinda posing with our individual characters’ props (we were all assigned a character with a job and a backstory), and then finally one all smiling.

We all pitched in for dinner, bringing apps & deserts, and I made this yummy salad with cranberries, walnuts, sunflower seeds, feta cheese, and a homemade dijon vinaigrette dressing.

We played a few rounds of the game first, doing funny challenges and reading clues and hunting for murder weapons and gathering evidence and checking out the dead body. (Which was blankets and a teddy bear laid out to look pretty realistic.)

Eventually it was dinner time on the HMS Hope, so we all squished around their table and ate delicious Catalina chicken (one of Bo’s specialties), with baked potatoes, rolls, and salad. One of the bits we had to do during the game, was every time the victims name “Serena” was said, we had to sing a little bit…

We all had our detective’s notes, and our little game cards with the bits we had to play and finally we filled out the accusation cards at the end. Literally no one guessed the correct murderer, but we still had a blast.

We all voted for best actor and best costume, and these two ladies, Renae & Melissa, tied for best actresses, and Brad won for best costume.

I actually thrifted my hat the other night, and then hot-glued on tons of flowers all around it. And that was one of my own personal scarves, that I don’t actually wear anymore, but just never got rid of…

This was the first adults-only game night we’ve had in a long time, and we had so much fun!
