Mississippi to Missouri

Emerson started her day by getting her hair curled for the first time!

And then we had a really good continental breakfast at the hotel. With those fancy fresh juices, and my array of choices, I felt like one of those “balanced breakfast” ads. And it was all so good! They even had fresh smoothies, which Emerson definitely loved.

Then we got packed up, and got back on the road again, headed to Missouri.

About an hour of driving, we stopped at the Mississippi welcome center for a potty break to run around for a bit. And this was the nicest looking rest stop I’ve ever seen!

We drove for another hour and a half, and then stopped in Tupelo for lunch. We did the Chick-fil-A drive-thru, with about a million other folks. Y’all know how efficient they are in regular times, but they were even more so today, with their dining room closed. Then we went to a nearby park to eat standing at the car, and let Emmie run around the open area a bit more.

It had been my turn to drive all morning, so I hopped back in the driver’s seat for another little stint, and we miraculously got Emerson to sleep in the car, after singing through her usual lullabies. She only napped for about 40 minutes, but that was better than nothing. Jeff and I switched when my back started hurting, and I wrote the first half of this blog post from the car.

We made one more potty break on our last leg, and since it was raining a little, Daddy picked up Emerson from her seat with the umbrella, which she loved! She thinks it the funniest, bestest thing to be under an umbrella.

Oh and this is our Mississippi River crossing, and right on the other side was Missouri!

We got to our hotel around 4:30, and my parents pulled up just a few minutes behind us, although they’ve been here since yesterday and had been helping with wedding stuff this afternoon.

Our hotel provided us a little snack-ish dinner for us, but we couldn’t eat down in the lobby together, because coronavirus. But we all brought it back to my parents’ room, and ate together anyways. Then we just kind of hung out and sat around talking for a while in the room. Eventually I painted both mine and Emerson’s toe nails bright pink, then she laid by Papa while her toes dried. And then she finished up with some of Grammy’s cotton candy.

Bedtime for her went well tonight, which was good since it was late, she had a short nap, and schedules and locations are all out of whack. I’m currently in my parents’ room down the hall, working on a project, and then I’ll head back to my room and read a little before I go to bed early.
