Missing My Granddaddy

Emmie was “practicing” sitting on the potty again, so Jeff gave her some reading material to practice that part too 😂 (Note – she’s fully clothed with her diaper still on.)

She was dressed so pretty for church today! Once again, she picked out her own shoes, and she did a great job. They match perfectly!

Today marks the third anniversary of my sweet Granddaddy’s passing. I miss him literally all the time, but today was rough. At his celebration of life service a few days after he left this earth, we sang “It Is Well.” It’s always been a beautiful song, but now it always brings back a flood of bittersweet memories. We sang it today in church (with my Uncle Keith leading worship today while our music minister is out of town), and it made me cry as always. We got about three words into the first verse, “when peace like a river,” and I was instantly sobbing. I grabbed Grandmommie’s hand standing next to me, with my Mama on her other side, and we all three sobbed through the whole song. It was incredibly emotional, and now I’m crying again writing this. He was such a huge, important part of my life, and sometimes I still can’t believe he isn’t here anymore. I miss him terribly. So thankful he is in heaven though, and that I’ll get to meet him again someday!

After church, we made sure the whole family got to see her and love her. Grandmommie had used a tiny little lamb as part of her Sunday school lesson, and she gave it to Emmie as a gift afterwards. She loved it! Also, my friend Emily gave us some hand-me-down slippers this morning, and Emmie put them on right away, then wore them all through Sunday school, church, lunch, and nap time!

Then she looked so cute and coordinated with Papa, we had to take a photo. And she went on a golf cart ride with Papa too!

We did lunch at Popeye’s, and it was so good. They have a $10 box with four pieces of chicken (or six tenders), two sides, two biscuits, and two apple pies. So we got two boxes, and four water cups, and we had lunch for five people for just $21! Super great deal!

Emmie slept for about 1.5 hours, and the rest of us all napped right along with her. She had some of her berry gummies, and then a bite of brother’s donut.

Emerson has been obsessed with Pretzel lately, and always wants to give him hugs and kisses.

After nap & snacks & play time, we did a run to Walmart for a small grocery pickup order, and then we went to Nana’s house for swimming and dinner! We took these first few photos in front of their neighbors beautiful yard, and I love them!

Nana got each of the boys a new shirt, and new jammies for Emerson.

She was “washing” my feet with this sill flower after dipping it in the pool.

For dinner, Nana made a taco bar with all the fixin’s, a pan of chicken enchilada’s, plus chips with salsa and queso. And it was all delicious.

After dinner, Emmie just had to put on her new jammies, and they are adorable! You can’t quite tell from the photos, but they have Lady on the shirt, and The Tramp on the pants. Also, giving Pretzel more hugs and kisses.

Nana had made a cherry dump cake for dessert, and even though we were pretty full from a great dinner, we managed to find some room for a small bit of dessert. We played a little while longer, before having to head home for bedtime.

After lots of hugs and kisses for bubba’s and Daddy, emmie let me sing her lullabies and then she was ready to lay down.

I’m doing a little more “self-care” tonight, with this all-natural clay face mask. It’s been a few minutes since I put it on, so I’m going to hit publish, and then go take it off, then we’ll find a movie we already own that we can watch, since we don’t have internet still.

I’ve been doing some new facial care stuff lately, hoping to clear up my skin. It’s never been all that clear, but it got worse after giving birth, and a little worse again these last six months, for no real reason. So this is part of the new stuff I’m trying out. I’ll share more on a different day, and hopefully share some before & after style progress photos eventually… Night friends!
