We had delicious orange Danish rolls for breakfast today, which were just so super yummy.
If you saw my post earlier with all the old cheerleading photos, they came out of that huge box of photos down there that Emmie’s using as breakfast table. There’s loads more photos in there from church camps and school trips and family vacations. So clearly we need to keep scanning!
And then we followed that up by baking a cake…
We took it easy today, and had a super lazy morning around the house. We played with babies, and read books, and watched videos, and Jeff and I even both fell asleep for a little bit at separate times.
Emmie had a PB&J for lunch (it was hilarious hearing her try to say it – she said about a million different iterations of it, but never quite landed on the right thing), and I had the leftover stuffed peppers from last night, which were still delicious the next day.
Emmie went down for her nap after lunch, and I washed the dishes and cleaned up the kitchen and kept working on my cake… (I forgot to document it earlier, but I made up some strawberry jello, poked holes all over the cake, and then poured the jello on top of the cake, and left it in the fridge for a few hours.)
And look how beautiful it turned out!!
After the cake was done and Emerson woke up, we loaded up all our stuff and headed out to my parents’ house for a pool party and family pot-luck. My Mama “assigned” us all different parts of the meal a few days ago, and I got dip & dessert, and so that’s why I did the cowboy caviar & Patriotic poke cake.
Emerson watched Uncle Bo throw Riley & Kensley up in the air like this, and she was dying for him to throw her too. And she LOVED it! She asked him to do it again about 5 times, and loved it every time.
To go with my cake & caviar, Mom made pulled BBQ chicken & baked beans, Bo made brisket, Grandmommie made potato salad, Uncle Keith made cole slaw, and everything was soooo good. Grandmommie’s potato salad was my favorite thing! I was very glad they sent us home with leftovers of mostly everything 🙂
Emerson was laying in this bouncy seat, and Kensley came over and just climbed up right on top of her, and they started bouncing, and we were dying laughing at the two of them!
And then we finally cut the cake, and it turned out sooooo good! The jello gave it a little marble effect, and made it super moist and that cream cheese icing I made was just delicious. It was a big hit with the fam!
Emmie had a bath at Grammy’s house before we left, and got cozy in her little jammies before heading home. In the car on the ride home, she as having a little heart-to-heart with her puppy, telling him things like asking for stuff nicely and also sharing. It was super sweet.
Bedtime went smoothly, which is good, because Jeff and I are both exhausted tonight! Also, I feel like I say this all the time (because we always like finding new tv series), but we’re again in need of a new series to start, so give us any suggestions, on pretty much any streaming format, please!
