My girl was super sweet this morning, just like usual!
But she was making some silly, crazy faces this morning!
We went out on our walk today, and made it 2.3 miles, and saw lots of beautiful things. This amazing magnolia bloom was just one of them! (I had to have Jeff take the photo, because it was actually like 6.5′ up in the air, and I was too short to reach, even with my arms fully extended, haha.) Also, I think today was literally our hottest walk so far. I thought I was gonna pass out from the heat
Yesterday and today were crazy days at work, so this afternoon, I made sure to take time for my 15-minute afternoon break, which I don’t always do. So I went out on the front porch to read in the rain. I also made sure to put my little front porch flower babies out on the steps to get some fresh rain water, hoping they’ll bloom again.
And since I worked 30 minutes late yesterday, and today was the last day of the pay period and the only day to flex it out, I got to sign out early today at 4:30. I planned to pick up Emmie early, but my work-friend Heather suggested I didn’t do chores or go to daycare early, so I took her advice and just read my book for 30 minutes, which was really nice and I’m glad I did that.
Emmie apparently got super duper sweaty out on the playground, because her little hair is just soaking wet and a complete mess!
She told me I had a blue tongue (I did not), and wanted to see what color her tongue was (also not blue).
And speaking on tongues, look at this little tongue sticking out, working so hard to get some food on the fork!
We had some chores to do around the house, so Emerson and I worked on some things while Jeff worked on some cabinet hinge issues we’re trying to figure out…
And look how amazing our hydrangeas are doing after all of this rain we’ve gotten recently! They’re so beautiful! Actually, all the things in our yard are doing really well right now, including the banana plants and the orange tree!
There are also some tiny little mushrooms popping up around the yard, which Emmie really loved to stare at, and then stomp on and squish.
OK so here’s the deal with the hinges — the ones we took off all of the cabinets are the original hinges when the house was built back in 1963. They probably used to be nice and pretty and in-style, but now they’re rusty and dingy and sticky and we are definitely not re-using them. The problem however, is these style hinges aren’t really even made anymore, and there are only very limited options for the exposed hinges anyways. But it seems we have to use exposed hinges, because there’s simply not enough space on the cabinetry to attach the newer-style hidden hinges.
OK but the next problem is, we can’t find exposed hinges to match the champagne-gold handles we’ve chosen (and already bought from Amazon), and it seems our only choice is white, which is perfectly fine for the upper cabinets (which we’ve already painted white), but I’m not sure how it’s going to look having exposed white hinges on the “Jet Ski Blue” lower cabinets. So we’ve been dragging our feet about painting all the blue, because I’m nervous about the hinge situation.
After our tiny supervisor told us all about how to put the hinges on (she really was doing all these funny things trying to describe how to do hinges, just like Jeff was trying to show me), we got her in her jammies and got ready for bed. She was very happy with the two peanut M&M’s she was given for her bedtime snack. Then she was super sweet and cuddly and we talked and laughed a bit before lullabies.
So as nervous as I am about the risky hinge situation, I also know I don’t want to paint alllll the cabinets white (I think it would just be too much for our small space with SO many doors and white appliances), I think we’re just gonna bite the bullet and go for it, painting the lowers blue tonight. And then we’ll keep working on trying to figure out the hinge situation another night… So here comes the blue!
