Low-Key Lazy Black Friday

We had the laziest, most low-key Black Friday, just spent at home all day. Jeff and Addie were up early today, and I got to sleep until about 8am. We had some breakfast, and then Emerson helped me get dinner started in the crock-pot.

Then I started a puzzle, and the girls put on leotards and did a whole show for me for about an hour. They were so cute and silly and had so many good moves. I was very entertained.

We had some leftover Publix fried chicken for lunch, with mac & cheese for the girls, and these fancy gorgonzola chips for Jeff and I. This idea came from TikTok, from a girl who was so obsessed/addicted to eating this every night, she literally developed an allergy to the cheese and can’t eat it anymore. You just melt gorgonzola cheese on plain kettle chips in the oven, the add a generous drizzle of balsamic glaze. And this was soooo good!

They were just being so cute and cuddly and silly after lunch while we watched a movie for a little bit, before Addie’s nap time.

But Addie Pie needed to go into “thinking time” for a few minutes (that’s what they call it at school, instead of “time-out”), after she bit her sister on the arm.

After I got Addie down for her nap (she was so quick and easy today, I was totally shocked actually), I literally walked around the entire house looking for Emerson, and couldn’t find her. I asked Jeff, “what did you do with Emmie?” And he was like, HUH!? So I went back to her room and was checking the closet and under the bed, when she finally said, “I’m over here Mommy!” And she was tucked into the very corner, behind a giant chick, reading a book and being adorable.

Under Pennie’s supervision, Emmie and I finished the puzzle and watched this week’s episode of Survivor during Addie’s nap time, and Jeff did some work for one of his on-the-side-clients.

Our supervisor fell asleep mid-episode…

Addison slept for two and half hours today, and woke up very hungry and ready for a snack. She went straight back to the sunflower seeds she’s been obsessed with all week, and sat there shoveling them in for quite some time.

I ended up falling asleep on the couch for a little bit while the girls watched “The Polar Express.” By the time I woke up, they were playing the floor is lava, and had set up a whole obstacle course around the living room. So while they did that, I worked on dinner. I shredded the chicken, made some jasmine rice (my absolute fave) and tried making carrots a new way for the first time. I just Googled “Asian carrot side dish,” read a few recipes, and then kinda did my own thing. I just slow-simmered them in olive oil & soy sauce, with garlic powder, onion powder, ground ginger, & honey, and I thought they turned out so good. The girls both tried one but didn’t like it, but oh well. I’d definitely make them like this again.

I think this girl is having a little growth spurt these past few days, eating WAY more than you’d expect her to. Like at dinner last night, we were all shocked with how much she ate from the Thanksgiving leftovers. And then tonight, she ate her whole first helping, got herself a second helping of rice and polished that off. Then she got herself a third helping of rice, and totally and completely cleaned out her bowl!

Then Daddy was just being silly and put on his beach hat and wanted me to take a picture of his bowl, which wasn’t even as cleaned out as Emmie’s bowl was.

Addie “decorated” both of us with about 10 of these necklaces as we sat on the couch after dinner, just picking out each color one-by-one, and very sweetly putting it around my neck.

Then Emerson had picked out another puzzle for us to start, but didn’t feel like helping me, but my tiny buddy wanted to get all up in my business. But she actually put two pieces together all on her own (look in the top left corner of the tray), and her and I both were very proud of her for that.

Emmie picked out one of favorite books for a bedtime story in Mommy’s bed tonight. Emmie was super tired and went to sleep easily, but Addie was flopping around fighting sleep for quite a long time.

We’ve got some errands and activities planned for tomorrow, but it was nice to just enjoy a dreary day spent at home. I’m such a homebody, and normally I don’t get this much time to just stay home. But this was just what we needed before the busiest month of the year starts on Sunday…
