Little Women

This morning, Emerson found Sheppy tucked into one of her slippers on the couch. I was in the shower when she found him, but Jeff said she squealed with excitement.

She also made her own bed this morning, completely unprompted, and it was so sweet. But I don’t know what her goofy little smooch face was about 🙂

She actually had this shirt last year, but she outgrew it. But then we inherited it again in a bigger size, in our hand-me-downs. It’s so cute!

I didn’t really specify last night, but I made the “salad eggs” to take for lunch for a couple of days, with those giant slices of delicious sourdough bread, plus my fave chips. Yum! I had half toady, and I’ll have the other half tomorrow.

My baby girl had a good day at school today, and did really good at drop-off this morning as well. Literally every morning on the way to school, she always says, “And you’ll come back for me, Mommy?” And so every day I reassure her that Mommy will always come back for her. It breaks my heart that she even asks that, but I always try my hardest to make her understand that I’ll never leave her, and I’ll always pick her up, and even though her reply is usually pitiful, she’s OK by the time we get to school.

I got stuck at work late today working on an emergency case, so Jeff went to pick up Emerson this afternoon. Of course I reminded him to bring her a snack and super cold ice water. And she was so surprised and excited to see him!

Even though I worked late, I ended up still getting home about 5-10 minutes before them, so I settled down in the comfy chair by the Christmas tree, to read for a bit. My friend Lauren gave me this “Little Women” 1994-movie-tie-in-version for my birthday one year when I was around 6 or 8 years old. For most of my life, it was the only version I had read, until I finally read the whole “real” thing in January of this year (and loved it of course).

Well, one of my favorite Instagrammers/bloggers Janssen at Everyday Reading hosts a book club every month, and this month is Little Women. So since I already read the full book this year, I decided to re-read this version, for the first time in years. I’ve also never actually seen any of the movies, so I plan to watch at least one of them this month after I finish the book!

We forgot to do the advent calendar this morning (on only the second day, and already forgot…), but luckily Emmie remembered when she got home and marched right over to handle that.

She wanted to put her nightgown on right away, but tonight was bath night, so I talked her out of the nightgown, and into the bath. Jeff took care of bath time, while I took care of dinner. After I got all the things baking and simmering, I washed a round of dishes, and then finished everything up to have taquitos, yellow rice & black beans. Which we’ve decided is our family’s favorite meal.

After just about every bite, Emmie would go, “Mmmm this is sooo good Mommy. You made this so good.” She really knows how to make a Mama feel great with all that sweet praise!

Nana found this fun Charlie Brown Christmas light for super cheap on Black Friday, and gave it to Emmie as an early gift so she could use it for the whole month. And of course she loves it! It spins and changes colors, and she’s obsessed with it.

She picked out two books for Jeff and I to both read one, and bedtime actually went really well tonight.

Jeff had put away our leftovers and rinsed out the pots, so there wasn’t much to clean up after getting Emmie down. Instead, I made us both a cup of hot tea. Jeff almost always chooses mint, but I love that I have a variety of flavors to choose from.

I’ve watched an episode of season two of “Virgin River” while blogging, and now that I’m done, I’m gonna drink my tea and read a little bit more, then head off to bed soon, because today has been super tiring!

Also, for most of the day I thought today was Thursday, so every time I remembered that it was only Wednesday, and that tomorrow wasn’t gonna be Friday, it made me a tiny bit sad. So here’s to one more day ’til Friday!
