Kiku & Quiche

Today was Christmas pajama day for Addison at daycare, and of course Emerson wore her pj’s as well when we took Addie to school. Addie got there right in time to sit down for breakfast…

And then I made Emerson and I some homemade oatmeal once we got back home. My Grandmommie used to always make this for me growing up, and it’s so nostalgic for me, and always make me think of her.

By the time we finished breakfast, we had a little time to just sit around and be lazy, playing on our Kindle’s and drinking some coffee, and then it was time to shower and get dressed.

We had a great lunch date with Grammy at Kiku today. It was so special, because it felt like such a big-girl, grown-up lunch, and Emerson was just so sweet and precious. She had some cute little conversations with Grammy, used her chopsticks to eat her teriyaki chicken bento box, and we all just truly enjoyed our time together. (Along with a quick run into Hobby Lobby afterwards.)

Her poor little bruise on her eye matched the purple shirt today. Thankfully, it didn’t get any worse over night like I was worried about, so hopefully it still won’t get worse before it gets better.

She asked us about the bell ringer on the way in (even though I already explained it to her at Publix yesterday), and then Grammy gave her some money to put in our way out, which Emmie thought was really special.

Back at daycare, Addie had herself a good day at school, wearing her fuzzy Christmas jammies all day.

We spent a couple of hours watching Christmas movies and doing a few different crafts and projects and coloring, until both of us got sleepy, and decided to just have some quiet time laying on the couch together.

Then it was time to drink some hot cocoa and making some sugar cookies. (Doesn’t she just look like a cute little hipster in her beanie!?)

We also grabbed an orange from our backyard tree to see if they were ready yet, and it was really good. Emmie kinda sucked the juice out of one half, and I used the other half to scrub my cutting board, with baking soda & course salt, which I saw on TikTok. Well, she actually used a lemon, but the orange worked pretty well too. Now I just need to re-oil the board, and it’ll be looking so nice again.

We went and picked up Addie Pie from school, and then I got started on dinner as soon as we got back. So even though I’ve made countless frittata’s over the past few years, I’d never made a quiche before, until tonight I finally made my first one. I did one with caramelized onion, bacon bits (still felt lazy and didn’t wanna make my own bacon), with freshly shredded Swiss cheese (and a tiny bit of mozzarella too), then topped with green onions and little shake of parmesan. And it turned out soooo good. I was pretty proud of myself, especially since the fam loved this! Both girls ate it up, and Jeff kept complimenting me, and said he actually liked it better than the frittata.

And since it took so long to bake, I washed up a load of dishes, and then the girls and I had lots of playtime together back in Addie’s room.

We always play this game where I say, “Does this baby fooooold?” And then fold her in half, and Addie thinks it’s hilarious. But now Emmie does it to her too, and Addie still thinks it’s funny.

Oh ok, now back to the finished quiche 🙂 Served it up with crescent rolls and some canned sliced peaches, and this meal was a hit!

After dinner, both girls were kinda melting down for various different random silly reasons. That lasted about 15 minutes and it took lots of calm talks and deep breathing and eventually we got them both calmed down and happy again. I think they were both just overly tired (Addie had been rubbing her eyes even before dinner), and had a little exhaustion meltdown.

Addie fell asleep with Jeff, after putting my penguin sock on her hand like a silly little goose. (It’s a pretty unflattering photo of me, but it’s sweet, so I’ll share it anyways…)

Time for some rest and relaxation , and probably another Christmas movie with hubby.
