Kafta & Kebabs

Well, after Emerson’s sleepover with Grammy & Papa last night, apparently she learned how to be a tiny barber, because she shaved Papa’s head!

Jeff let me sleep in until like 9:15am this morning, and him and Addison got donuts for breakfast. I bet you’d never guess Addie ate an entire chocolate donut, huh!?

This dog has no idea she weighs like 50 pounds – she thinks she’s just a tiny little baby dog! We’re afraid one of these days she’s gonna break our poor old glass tabletop.

After lazing around a bit, eating a donut and watching some of “Coco” with Addie on Disney+, I got dressed for the day. I went through the 7Brew drive-thru for a coffee, and was surprised when they told me I had a free coffee reward in my account, so I up-sized it to a large, and had myself a free giant iced coffee!

Then I treated myself to a pedicure. I used to never go to the salon for pedicures, and just always did it myself at home. But I just decided to go ahead and let the professionals take care of it these days, as a treat to myself, and one hour of peace and quiet in this chaotic life 😉

I met up with my parents to get Emmie around lunch time, and her and I stopped off at a Little Free Library on our way back home.

When we got back home, we got Addie down for her afternoon nap with Jeff, and I wrote the blog post for yesterday, since I got home late last night and just went to sleep instead of blogging. So after I got that written, Emmie and I were watching an episode of Survivor in the living room, and I barely made it through the tribal council vote before I fell asleep in the recliner. Emmie watched a movie on her own then, since everyone else in the house was asleep.

We all started waking up again around 4:30, and we took a quick 30 minutes to do a tidy-up in the living room and kitchen, because things were just scattered and strewn everywhere. We put Addie in some clean clothes (since she was still in her nightgown the whole day), and then headed out to try a new-to-us place for dinner.

For the month of November, our church always focuses on missions and missionaries. In GC Kids, each kid got to pick a missionary & their country to contact and learn about. Then each kid represents their country in the missions parade during big church. Emerson chose the missionary from Turkey, so we’ve emailed her back and forth a few times, learning about her life and what it’s like living in Turkey, and some specific ways we can pray for her.

We wanted to eat some Turkish foods, but I didn’t want to cook, and there aren’t any Turkish-specific restaurants here, so we went with the next closest option, at Kebabas Mediterranean Grill. I’ve actually seen this food truck down on the corner of Gaines & Railroad for years, and have always wanted to try it. Tonight I finally got the chance, and it was SO GOOD!

We got a chicken kebab plate for the girls, with yellow rice and pitas, and that was SO much rice, and the most flavorful, most tender chicken, seasoned so well. Absolutely delicious. Jeff and I both got the mixed kebab platter, which was choice of two meats and one side. I got the lamb & kafta kebabs (kafta is Lebanese-style ground beef) with hummus & pita chips, and Jeff got steak & kafta, with fries. But then one of the guys in the truck came out to bring Jeff a steak kebab, saying he had accidentally given him lamb instead of steak, so he brought him that one. We hadn’t even realized the mistake yet, so that was awesome they did that, and Jeff then got three kebabs! Allll of the meats were honestly delicious, but my favorites were the chicken & lamb.

OH yeah, and Nana had met us there too! She also had chicken kebabs with hummus, and loved hers too. We sent all the leftovers home with her, which will be about two more meals for her to take to work for lunches next week.

The girls had a little bubble bath when we got home (not actual bubble bath, I just squirted a ton of Addie’s tear-free shampoo into the water),and then we found nice warm clean jammies for both of them. Emmie’s are last years’ Christmas jammies that still fit perfectly, and Addie’s are some hand-me-down’s from a friend at church. They both needed another snack of course while watching Bluey, and then Emmie read a bedtime book for them.

Emerson was exhausted and went to sleep super quickly. Addison had also fallen asleep with Jeff really quickly, but then when I tried to lay her down in her bed, she woke up crying wanting to cuddle Daddy again. So they’re back to cuddling again, and I’m catching up on the latest episode of Survivor again (then I’ll be all caught up after this one), and then I’ll head to bed soon.
