Our tiny Tater Tot woke up super early, around 5:30am, because she had leaked out of her diaper and wasn’t happy about it. Her nightgown was a little wet, and she wasn’t ready to put school clothes on yet, so that meant snuggling and watching songs in Mommy’s bed, with Daddy, Pretzel, & Charlie Brown.
Grammy had given Emmie a little bag of donut holes last night, so she had a few for her pre-breakfast snack at home.
And then she was being so super silly at school. First, she was very interested in the drain pipe on the side of her building, and then she kept lifting up her shirt and flashing me.
She then took off running into the school and down the hallway to her classroom.
When we dropped off her bag in her classroom, she picked a second spot for photos, and flashed me again. we had a “serious” chat about not doing that anymore, so hopefully she wasn’t flashing her friends and teachers at school all day, haha 😉
My sister got me a whole pack of fun new stud earrings for my birthday, so I’ve been sending her pictures when I wear a new pair, like this today, complete with my blue-light-filtering glasses.
So we had some crazy weather come through most of the southeast today, and Leon County schools ended up all closing early. Since Growing Room always follows the county closures, I had to get off work early to pick up Emerson by 3pm. We had originally had other plans for dinner, and Grammy was going to pick her up, but those got cancelled for other reasons, and Emmie was actually very upset when I showed up instead of Grammy. So we had to go by Grammy’s office for a little visit. She got Emmie some snacks, and we sat in the break room for a while, and then ate some ice.
We got home around 4pm, and Jeff got home just a few minutes after us, since his office gave them all permission to leave early as well. We even got about 15 minutes of outside playtime in the backyard before the rain actually started.
She started to back up under the trees on the edge, so Daddy showed her how to go up further in. I decided to join them, and it felt like a little secret garden up in there!
Crazy little girl, lifting up her shirt again.
It started raining, so we headed back inside, and Emmie decided she was ready for her second snack from Grammy’s office, Chex Mix.
And then I painted her little tiny toenails! I showed her one pink & one purple and told her to pick. She chose purple, so I painted her first foot with the purple. But then when it was time to paint the second foot, she wanted that one pink, so we went for it!
When we went for a diaper change, she decided she needed an outfit change as well. Then she picked out a bunch of books to read, and brought them back to the living room. We read “The Kissing Hand” first, and it must have been the first time we read the brand new book, and even found a sheet of stickers. She started out by putting them in her “portfolio” as Papa calls it, but then she found somewhere she liked better…
She even placed one on my old boo-boo on my chest. Which coincidentally, I just found while I was writing this blog, close to three hours later…
As I was getting dinner ready, Emerson was sitting on the bar stool going through my purse. She pulled out a few lipsticks and lined them up on the counter, telling me which colors she liked. A few minutes later, I looked over and found her like this!!! Covered in the one color she said she didn’t like, with Doritos cheese peeking out from underneath. I was just laughing so hard at this whole situation! (The third photo is when I first caught her, but I thought it was so cute and funny, i just let her keep going while I video-ed her, and the first photo is how she ended up.) 😆💋😍
The storm had gotten pretty bad by this point, and it was raining sideways, with super heavy winds. The electricity kept flashing on and off, and I was afraid we’d lose it all together, and that it would happen right in the middle of trying to cook dinner. So I took the easy road, and just used the microwave for a few minutes to make cheese noodles for Emmie, and Trader Joe’s gnocchi for me, and Jeff just wanted a PB&J.
It doesn’t look pretty in this beat-up old microwave bowl, and honestly it wasn’t really that great, but I ate about half of it, and it was decent-enough for an easy dinner, but I won’t buy it again…
We did some play time and books after dinner, before we were going to try to do bath time.
But THIS is what came out of our faucet! It has something to do with the storm and mud getting into the filtration system with all the rain and the blinking electricity… I don’t know, but it was straight up muddy water! So clearly, we did NOT bathe Emmie in this. Instead, we doused her with baby powder, and she was fine! I mean, she’s a tiny girl, and she was inside almost all day, so how dirty could she possibly be?! Jeff reported this to TalGov, so hopefully they can get it cleared up soon. I mean, I need to shower myself in the morning, and make coffee, so we need this fixed!
After plenty of baby powder and some wipes and lotions, she was ready for a fresh nightgown, and ready to start the bedtime routine, even if she was acting super goofy and silly.
She was super cute and sweet all afternoon, and I’m so glad we got extra time together today, even if it was due to some crazy inclement weather. I had planned to wash some of the dishes that have been piling up from leftovers and morning cereal and such, but I can’t wash dishes with brown muddy water, so now it’s just time to sit down and chill out!
