Impromptu Geography Lesson

(This post is for Wednesday, 12/09/20. I went to bed last night at 8:30, and was just too tired to blog first!)

We got to school at the same time as the Walker’s again, and Emmie loved helping get the girls out of the van and into their jackets, before heading into the building. All of them are adorable, but I forgot to get a solo picture of my own kid that morning! Oops…

At work, I helped co-host a baby shower for my boss’s daughter, and it turned out so stinking cute! We did a kind of woodland/storybook theme, and it was adorable, even in a not-so-cute bland meeting room. I brought our books from home, plus the mason jars & the eucalyptus & baby’s breath from Trader Joe’s. And our Bureau Chief bought the cute wall decor and wooden slices under the jars.

Slightly awkward, socially distanced, but still nice and cute 🙂 But all the pics of the people ended up on other people’s phones, because I was notating all the gifts during the actual shower.

Jeff was seriously craving a Whataburger patty melt, so he “convinced” me not to cook (he really had to twist my arm on that one), and he ran through the drive-thru and brought dinner back home to us. I got a patty melt too, but that thing was huge! I didn’t realize it was a two-patty burger, so I cut the burger in half, and took off one patty, and still only ate half the burger and like 5 of Emmie’s fries.

Halfway through dinner, she was looking around the dining room and was like, “What’s that?” It took a minute to figure out what she was even asking about, because there are so many things over on the bookshelf (plus all the Christmas decor/boxes in front of it that I haven’t finished and put away yet), but we finally determined she meant the globe. So Jeff grabbed it and brought it over, and we tried explaining it to her. We pointed out Tallahassee, and explained Florida, America and Earth… but WOW those are kind of hard concepts to explain to a three-year-old. Even a smart one! She may not have completely understood, but she was so sweet and very interested in her impromptu geography lesson!

While Jeff picked up our burgers, Emmie played on her tablet and I washed dishes and made some hard-boiled eggs in my little egg cooker. So then after dinner, with the last scrap of energy I had for the day, Emmie helped me make up a batch of “salad eggs” (which is what she calls egg salad, if you didn’t know), and of course had to taste-test about five huge bites, even after she ate a really good dinner.

Jeff read her bedtime books and held her during lullabies, and I laid down on the floor of her room with my head on her stuffed kangaroo, after realizing how utterly exhausted I was. I loved on my girl a bit, and then I told her I was going to bed too. That was around 8pm, and by 8:30pm, I was in bed and falling asleep.

I had been on my feet for about 2.5 hours (or more maybe?) helping with all the baby shower prep & clean-up, and just hadn’t taken any break times to rest during that. (Even though I’m only 4 months pregnant, I still need to rest when working that hard!) So I think I just overdid it a bit, and needed to go to bed early! I was worried I wouldn’t be able to actually fall asleep that early, but in less than 10 minutes, I was out like a light, and slept hard all night.

I didn’t wake up all night, until about 4am this morning, when I heard Emmie calling me because she was cold, and needed me to put her blanket back on her. Apparently, she forgot she herself can just pull her blanket over her, but oh well. We were both able to go back to sleep after that, so it worked out okay. Once I finally got up this morning at 6:15, I felt much better and way more refreshed!
