We started the morning with Emerson doing some indoor “yard work” while I made pancakes for breakfast.
After we finished eating, I sat down on the couch and made us a nice long list of quarantine to-do’s around the house, like wash the sheets, clean out the car, chop down the rest of the banana plants & mow the yard, etc… The plan was to stay home for two straight days, working on our chores and doing some fun family things, and probably playing in the sprinkler. (Below, Emerson was making a quick call to the triplets, asking what they were up to…)
But then I dropped the machete and cut a pretty decent gash in my ankle!
Jeff had taken Emerson with him on a car ride to the gas station, to fill up the gas can for the lawn mower. I got dressed and put on tennis shoes, and went out to work on the banana plants while they were out & about. I had my blue-tooth head phones in and was getting lots of work done. But the banana plants are literally only leaves, so they retain a lot of water, and my hands got a little slippery, and the machete just slipped out of my hands, and landed blade side directly on my ankle. It hurt obviously, but not as bad as you’d think.
I immediately called Jeff, and they happened to be pulling back into the carport, so that was good timing. I sat down on the back porch steps, took off my shoe so it wouldn’t get blood all over it, and waiting for him to check it out. Emerson was surprisingly interested in the whole situation, but also slightly concerned for Mommy, and being super sweet. Once Jeff wiped it off a little bit, we could see that it was a short cut, but kind of deep, and he instantly suggested stitches. That thought hadn’t even crossed my mind, but I quickly realized he was probably right…
So he cleaned it up a bit, and found the biggest band-aid we had. We called Nana to meet us there, so that she could take Emerson back to her house, because we didn’t want Emmie to have to sit around in the ER waiting room for hours. And that turned out to be a really good thing, because they wouldn’t even let Jeff come inside with me. With all the new restriction due to the coronavirus, NO visitors are allowed, and that includes no one is allowed to even accompany you inside, if they’re not the ones need emergency serves themselves. So I had to be a big girl and get my first stitches, all by myself, without even my hubby to hold my hand!
Jeff ended up just sitting in the car in the parking lot (watching YouTube on his phone) while I was in the ER, and Nana got some Chick-o-Fay for Emmie on the way back to her house. She had lunch, and then played in the tiny pool, and then Nana finally got Emerson down for nap time.
So I said earlier that this was my first time getting stitches, but really that’s only sorta true, because of course I had stitches after my C-section, but obviously I don’t remember that, and that wasn’t like it was stitches due to an injury, so this was sorta still the first time. The PA that did them for me was actually super impressed I’ve made it this far in life without needing stitches for anything. (Mama, let me know if I forgot something from when I was younger 😉 ) Anyways, I got three stitches in the top of my ankle, that they want left in for 10 days, and then I have to go back to get them taken out by a doctor. They’re the stronger, not-dissovable kind, because of where they are on my foot, and all the movement that happens in your ankle. But he said I’m good to shower & walk & drive and all that good stuff, so that’s at least very good news!
*WARNING* the second photo below shows the completed stitches, so beware if you’re squeamish. (I left out the nastier looking, gaping-wound photos from pre-stitches, but happy to share individually if you want to see, so just message me 🤪)
We had been in the ER for like, 2.5 hours, and Jeff and I were both super duper hungry by the time we got out of there. So I ordered food on the CFA app, we parked in the lot, and they brought out piping hot, fresh waffle fries and delicious chicken sandwiches, then we went to his parents’ house. Emerson was still napping, so after we ate, I went to the guest room and tried to nap for a bit myself.
After nap time, Emerson was ready to get back into the little Minnie Mouse pool again, and I was glad, because I wanted to watch her “swim” and play in the water, since I missed it while I was getting my foot sewn up earlier!
She got cold quickly though, so we put her clothes back on, got her some strawberries for an afternoon snack, and brought some more toys out on the back porch.
And then she wanted to get back in the pool again, but she didn’t want to wear a diaper or a swim suit, so we got baby soap and made bubbles, and called it bath time. (I took photos of her tiny booty because I can’t stand how cute & widdle it is, but those aren’t for the public 😉 ) So she got some fresh, dry clothes, and was ready to start playing again! Nana had invited us to just stay all day and she made us tacos, so that I didn’t have to worry about anything tonight, with all the foot hoopla. And I was so super grateful for that!
Oh, and Emerson had her leftover ice cream after dinner, since she ate really well at dinner time.
But even after a good dinner, and ice cream for dessert, she still needed her nightly go-gurt before bedtime at home.
They didn’t specifically tell me that I needed to elevate my foot or anything, but I just kinda feel like I should. So I’ve got my foot up while I rest on the couch, blogging away while Jeff plays a computer game. My house is a wreck, and I didn’t complete literally anything on my to-do list for the weekend, and that’s frustrating.
I was actually looking forward to getting some work done around the house and being productive this weekend, so now I’m a little mad at myself because of my injury! I’m sure I’ll be able to do some work tomorrow, and I think I’ll be fine, but I’ll definitely take it a little easy. For tonight though, we’re going to find something chill to watch on Netflix, and then take ourselves to bed soon. What a day!
