Grammy’s Chili & Baked Potatoes

Emmie went and got in Addie’s bed with her first thing this morning, once they were both awake. Such sweet sisters 🙂

Then Addie wanted to just sit in bed with Daddy and read her little touchy book, while we waited for him to slowly wake up too.

Scrolling Facebook late last night, I saw that Shipley’s is owned by a local vet, so we decided it was the right thing to do to support him this morning on Veteran’s day, by purchasing our breakfast from him today. And it was of course delicious.

These kolaches (sausage & cheese in the most incredible yeast roll) are our favorites – we got two for all four of us to share, but that wasn’t really even enough.

But Jeff also chose this ginormous bear claw today, and it was practically the size of three individual donuts.

After breakfast, we were back to just playing and hanging out for a couple of hours, with a few chores and projects interspersed here and there. (Like Jeff replaced the light above the kitchen sink; not just the light bulb, but like he re-wired a whole new light kit thingy, because our old one never came on when we flipped the switch. But now it comes on perfectly!) Meanwhile, the girls and I were dancing, and playing doctor, and playing nap time, and just playing with blankets for a long time.

Eventually, I got lunch for both girls, and then Addie went down for her nap. (Where she slept another 3-ish hours again today.) I put Emmie down to try to get her to nap, and heated up last night’s leftovers for me & Jeff for lunch. But Emmie didn’t want to sleep, but by that time, I was falling asleep on the couch, so she just sat there next to me, while I snoozed for an hour, and she watched videos and played games on her Kindle.

Eventually, Jeff and I bot got showered and cleaned up and then Addie woke up. So we made a super quick visit to Walmart, and then went out to my parents’ house to hang out with them for a while.

Our weekends the last few months (since the new school year started) have been super full and busy, and it felt like we just hadn’t spent much time with them lately. So it was good to just hang out and spend a few hours at their house with them, doing puzzles and playing and laughing and eating dinner together. But this crazy puzzle my mom has been working on (for literally forever), has some of the weirdest shaped puzzle pieces any of us have ever seen.

Mama made chili and baked potatoes for dinner, and although it wasn’t cold outside, it was still the perfect fall dinner. My baked potato is hiding under the chili, and it was so good like that.

We did bath time in Grammy’s giant jetted tub (which was a little scary for Addie, so that didn’t last long for her), which Emmie absolutely loved and stayed in for a long time. Then Grandmommie read them a book that she used to read to Megan and I when we were little girls.

Of course both sleepy little girls ended up falling asleep on our 30-minute drive home. I was able to just lay Addison directly in her bed when we got home, and even though she had woken up, she went right back to sleep. Emerson on the other hand needed to stay up for another hour or so, watching “boring car videos” with Daddy, while I started writing this post. She’s laying down in her bed by this point though, and should actually be asleep by now.
