This past weekend, I hosted our second annual Galentine’s Day Tea Party for the ladies in our family! My mama, sister, Aunt Suzanne, Grandmommie, and mother-in-law all attended. I started this tradition last year, and I’m so glad I was able to do it again this year. It was slightly more work with a little baby this year, but I know it will be even more so once she’s running around next February! (Holy cow that’s crazy to even think about that!)
Over the past few years, I’ve thrifted, and been gifted, a random assortment of tea pots, tea cups and saucers, and have a cute little collection now. It’s been fun these past two years getting to use them this way, instead of just sitting on display!
For those that don’t know, Leslie Knope from Parks & Recreation (which is one of mine & Jeff’s favorite series, and we’ve watched it through multiple times), officially started the celebration of Galentine’s Day, by having an annual brunch with all her best girlfriends on February 13th. Here’s a quote directly from her explaining it…
“Oh it’s only the best day of the year! Every February 13th, my lady friends and I leave our husbands and our boyfriends at home, and we just come and kick it, breakfast-style. Ladies celebrating ladies. It’s like LIlith Fair, minus the angst. Plus frittatas.”
We may not have had fancy frittatas, but we did have excellent brunch food! Last year, I did all the food on my own (minus the pimento cheese because my mom makes the best so I asked her to do that), but this year everyone volunteered to bring something, and I was totally fine with accepting their offers! We had tea sandwiches (pimento cheese, tuna and cucumber dill), lemon poppy seed muffins, chocolate-covered strawberries, iced sugar cookies, brownies, creamy artichoke dip and plenty of fruit. And it was all delicious! We let Emerson gnaw on a cracker for the first time, and then she had some pureed peaches. Galentine’s 2019 she’ll be eating all the yummy foods right along with us!
Here’s a fun story about Emerson’s outfit… My sister bought this for her as a gift for my first baby shower last April. The onesie says “Sassy Like My Aunt.” So ever since before Emerson was born, Megan has been dying for her to be able to wear it, but she was so tiny, and the outfit was too big!
Then Saturday morning when Megan got there, Emerson was just waking up from her morning nap (still in her PJ’s from the night before), so Aunt Meggie wanted to go get her out of the crib, and pick out her outfit for the day. She surprised me when she came out wearing this adorable outfit! At 7 months old, she was finally big enough to fit into her 3m size outfit 🙂 Megan also bought the pair of matching bloomers & head band to go with it, and the cutest gold sandals! This was actually Emmie’s first time wearing any shoes, so that was some excitement too! (Although she wasn’t exactly a fan of them…)
She is absolutely adorable of course, and is in fact quite a bit sassy, for such a little girl! We’re actually a bit worried she may end up too sassy, so we’re gonna need her to tone it down a bit as she grows up! We’ve actually joked that Megan prayed too hard for her to be “sassy like her aunt,” because it definitely worked! Haha, but it’s OK, because she’s also incredibly sweet.
We had a lovely time talking, eating, playing with Emerson, and just all being together! I’ve been blessed with some truly amazing women in my life, and I’m even luckier that I get to call them all my family! To all the rest of my lady friends out there, Happy Galentine’s Day to you too! Enjoy some sweet treats today… Leslie Knope would want you to!
