Firetrucks, Thrifting & Arepas

LOTS of photos today (over 30! but only 1/3 of all the pics I actually took today!), so let’s get to it! We met up with family and friends (while our husbands were at church for a GC men’s breakfast) for the Firetruck Roundup out at Tom Brown Park, and had a great time checking out all the trucks, bouncing, sitting in a big fire truck, face painting, and getting candy and balloons. We went last year as well and loved this event. Thanks Meg for organizing our morning activities for the whole group!

We braved taking all the girls out to lunch afterwards at Sonny’s, since it was kids eat free day there. And they all did surprisingly well and ate so well too.

We went home to Jeff after lunch, and everyone took nice long naps. Addie fell asleep in the car on the way home, but we were able to just carry her straight to bed and lay her down, and she kept on sleeping. Both girls slept for about 2 hours, and Jeff and I both fell asleep in the living room, him in the recliner and me on the couch. Emmie and I later ran to Walmart to pick up our grocery order, and then we made a super quick library trip before they closed.

I’ve been looking for a certain series of books at thrift stores all summer long, but hadn’t found any. Then a friend sent me a message today saying she found one today, so we had to go there to grab it! We wandered around there checking out many things for a while, and we picked a couple more things to take home with us.

I actually loved this set of dishes, but of course I’m not going to buy it for $150! Maybe it’s vintage and worth that much, I don’t know, but it was too much for me, obviously.

After the thrift store, we went right around to the corner to Venebites for dinner. I went here with my friend Heather a couple months ago, and had been wanting Jeff to try it, and we finally made it. Jeff and I both got the same arepa that I got the first time, and we got a ham & cheese arepa for the girls to share, and we got an order of tequenos (cheese sticks). And everything was soooo good. Even the simple ham & cheese arepa was buttery and salty and delicious.

The girls took a bath together when we got home, and played for a long time with the foam soap that we bought after using it at Aunt Meggie’s house last week. They both loved it and had so much fun with it. Then of course it was time for jammies and bedtime, and both girls were exhausted and things went very smooth.

The house is an absolute disaster zone of clutter and mess from this last week or so – clean laundry piles and dirty dishes and take-out cups and little girls’ shoes…. but I just have no motivation to clean that up tonight! So maybe we’ll get around to it tomorrow…
