Fender Bender

Thursday mornings are usually a little rough after late Wednesday nights at church. You can tell that through Addie’s little grumpy, sleepy face…

But they’re not usually this rough… Had myself a little fender bender on the way to school this morning. I was in the left turn lane, and I’m not sure exactly what happened, because the line of cars was moving forward at the green light, and then all of a sudden, well, we weren’t…. I was only going about 5-10mph max, and I slammed on the brakes, but still bumped into this car in front of me. I immediately called Jeff, then took some pics, and we moved out of the road into the parking lot right next to where we were on Tharpe Street.

My car is a little more crunched up than the other lady’s car, which has almost no damage whatsoever. And since we were going so slow, Addison and I were completely unharmed, totally okay. She didn’t even know anything had happened; didn’t cry or fuss or react at all.

This is the other car, and you can see where I concealed her license plate number, but directly below that is the only minor damage her car sustained. So it really wasn’t a huge deal… But it was definitely emotionally upsetting and stressful for me.

After we drove my car back home to leave it at the house (it was drivable, but we didn’t wanna push it…), we all piled up in Nana’s car (that Jeff is still borrowing because his car isn’t working right now), he dropped off Addie, then Emmie, and then me…

And Addie had a great day at school, including party food and egg hunts.

As a nice treat in the middle of this crazy day, Meg picked me up for lunch and we met Mama at one of our new favorite-est places, Cava. It was delicious, and being with my two favorite ladies put me in a better mood after such a rough morning.

Luckily, Jeff was off work and able to make a bunch of phone calls to our insurance folks, and figure out all the car stuff today. He found a place to take it to get fixed, that could actually start on it next week, as opposed to all the places that said they were booked up and couldn’t start for another month. So late this afternoon, he dropped my car there, then took an Uber to Enterprise, and got a rental car (thankfully covered by our insurance). Meanwhile, Aunt Suzanne brought me home to our house, I jumped in Nana’s car (that had the girls’ car seats), and ran back out to get them both picked up before their school’s closed… So much hoopla and running around, but we got things settled, and I’m so glad we were able to get so many pieces of the puzzled figured out all in the same day.

Since Jeff made it back home from the rental place first before I did, he had already gotten dinner started, so when I got home, I just had to make up some sides, and then serve it all up. Easy peasy.

Then Jeff was going to go move the girls’ car seats from Nana’s car into my new rental, and so we all took a family field trip to the driveway to check it out together. It’s a 2021 GMC Terrain, and it’s actually really nice and I really like it. I also took it for a quick spin around the block, and it drove nice and smooth, and it’s gonna have me wishing we could afford to upgrade my car…

Little helpers getting the mail.

And Emerson was SO excited to get this letter in the mail from Aunt Laura and Aunt Elaine today. It was a cute little duckie Easter card, and Emmie just thought it was the best.

We had a little bit of family time watching Bluey and the girls ate some snacks, and then we got them ready for bedtime. Emerson fell asleep again while I was reading to her, just so sweet and precious.

Jeff had rocked Addie to sleep easily tonight, so I laid her down in the crib after carrying Emmie to her room too. Jeff and Ryan ran out to Walmart for a couple random necessities, and who knows what all… They’ll be back soon, but until then, I’m going to watch an episode of the second season of “Firefly Lane” on Netflix.

WHAT a day… Am I right? Thankful that things weren’t worse this morning, and thankful for insurance, and thankful for a rental, and thankful for a husband who takes care of all of those things for us. All of us are home tomorrow for the Good Friday/Spring “holiday” (both girls’ schools are closed, so I took the day off), and I’m very thankful for that too.
