Fend For Yourself Night

After a fun 3-day weekend of camping, we were back to school and work today. When we drove past our local high school and Emmie realized there was no traffic, and I told her the big kids weren’t at school this week, she was not thrilled that she had to go, but we still had a nice easy drop-off. And look at this crazy yellow coloring and sky and clouds and everything!

During these next two photos, Emmie was singing the “skidamarink” song from her little ballet recital and dancing around, and sleepy baby Addie just snoozed through the whole event.

But she woke up on the walk to the classroom, and gave her Mama some very big, very sweet smiles!

Emerson always wants to choose a toy or two to give with Addison when we leave her, and she was very excited about the four blocks she left her with today.

Meg and I went to lunch together today at Taco Republik, and like always, we had to walk around the corner to pick up some coffee from RedEye before heading back to our offices. It’s funny because some days we’re talking about any and all random topics you can think of, but some days both of us just need to vent about hoopla, and today was a vent day. So glad my sister is my best friend

I got stuck at work 30 minutes late today working on a last-minute immediate release situation, and when I walked out to the mostly empty parking garage, the clouds and the sky just looked so pretty!

So since I was stuck at work, Jeff picked up the girls today, and Emmie was so surprised and excited to see him when he got there.

And when I got home, I realized just how much of a wreck our house was! Yesterday when we got home, we just dumped everything from the camping trip in the living room, kitchen and dining room, and instantly left the house again to go all over town switching cars, picking up Pretzel, and getting Addison, and then by the time we got home it was bedtime and we didn’t clean up, like, at all. So wow, this was what greeted me when I got home…

But instead of starting to clean up, I just sat right down in the recliner, and had like, four minutes of quiet with the soft Christmas music Jeff left on the tv, before he got back home with the girls.

We didn’t get our usual grocery pick-up this past weekend, so we’re kinda just scrounging for dinner every night this week, until we make it to Thanksgiving. So it was kinda just a “fend for yourself night” in regards to dinner. Emmie had an apple for an appetizer, then an Uncrustable leftover from camping, followed up by popcorn with me after my leftovers from one of our dinners late last week. Jeff made himself a couple of PB&J’s as well, with some more popcorn.

Addison had fallen asleep on the car ride home, and stayed asleep in her car seat for a while during our dinner time. Then when she woke up, she was sweet and cute and we had some sweet little cuddle-play-times on the couch together with big sister.

This was both girls watching their Daddy walk into the kitchen, and them just beaming back at him with the sweetest smiles and most beautiful blue eyes

I fed Addison a bottle while Jeff got Emerson ready for bed and started on the bedtime routine. Then we switched and he held Addie so I could get some Emmie loves. There really weren’t any dishes that needed to be washed, and not much dinner clean-up to do, so that allowed me to do a lot of other work all around the house, both before and after dinner. So I was able to make quite a bit of progress (with some help from Jeff and Emmie) getting things put back in order a little bit more like normal.

We’ve still got that load of the girls’ clean laundry in the hamper, and a load of clean camping clothes out in the dryer, but that stuff can wait… I actually just grabbed Addie from Jeff and laid her down in her crib, so hopefully she’ll stay asleep and we’ll all get a good nights’ rest.

Both girls woke up multiple times last night, so although we were back in our own house in our own beds, we still didn’t get the best sleep. So I’m really hoping and praying that tonight is much smoother, and we ALL sleep through the night!
