Emerson stayed with Grammy and Papa all day today, while Jeff and I stayed home continuing to work on our kitchen project. So all of the pictures below are interspersed from home with just Jeff and I, and pictures at my parents’ house, since they were sending me photos during the day, and I was saving them to my phone.
When Mom first sent me this picture, she said, “Emerson’s on her third breakfast!” And I said, “Yep, sounds about right!”
We decided we did not want to take everything out of the cabinets, for a few reasons: 1. we didn’t have space around the house to store everything, and 2. We were just kind of lazy and we thought this might work… So instead, we cut up plastic sheeting, and taped it to the inside to cover all of the things. Then we could still lightly sand the cabinet faces, without covering everything in dust.
We took a break for lunch with Whataburger patty melts, and used a coupon I had for BOGO Dr. Pepper shakes, and we watched a couple videos of our favorite YouTube travellers.
Then Emerson took her nap in Grammy’s big bed next to Papa 💕
And then had some snuggles with Snoopy as she slowly woke up.
Since it rained literally from Dawn to dusk today, we had to move our operation indoors after a while. Our freshly sanded, and now unprotected wood, was soaking in all of the moisture, even though they were covered in the carport, since it was so incredibly humid and muggy. So we put down a bunch of shower curtains in the dining room, and started our first coat of primer indoors. Jeff had the idea to put one small nail on the inside of each door, so that we could paint the inside, then flip it over to sit on the nails, and paint the outside of the door as well. That way we got the first coat on the doors all at one time, instead of having to wait for them to dry and then flip over.
We also used painters tape to make flags label each of the cabinet numbers, since we had previously written on it with sharpie, and would now be painting over it.
Then around mid-afternoon, we headed out to my parents house to meet everyone for a family fish fry! Mandy and Aaron came in from Missouri for a little summer family time, and we had planned to have a pool party today. The rain had other plans though, so we still had a fish fry, but no one actually swam.
My girl was exhausted after playing so hard all last night and all day today, and for the first time in a LONG time, she fell asleep in the car on the ride home. She was half-asleep when Daddy got her out of the car at home, but woke up in order to have a snack and do our bedtime routine.
Jeff and I are both soooo tired and sore now, but we’re gonna push hard and get a little more work done tonight, after we sit on our rears for just a few minutes longer…
