Another Monday, another week of school and work and the regular routine. Cutie little Emmie in a new skirt, and cutie little Addie in a dress she picked out for herself.
Oh and I also got some “root beer chicken” started in the crock pot first thing this morning as well.
We had a normal day at school and work, and then I picked up both girlies before heading back home again.
Emmie worked on her homework while I was doing dinner, and then had Jeff check all her answers, to make sure she had understood everything. In first grade, she just had one homework assignment for the whole week. But apparently in second grade, she’ll have homework every night. So that’s something we’ll have to get used to, and make sure we don’t forget. Going to try to do it every night before dinner like this, to ensure we get into that habit.
(Also, I started mod-podging my citrus puzzle last night. Got two coats on the front, and I’ll flip it and do two coats on the back tonight.)
So then when we got home tonight, I had Jeff shred the chicken for me, and I made up some baked beans and a package of Knorr Parmesan noodles. I also toasted up some hamburger buns, and then everything was ready to go. (And honestly, this root beer chicken was fine, but not spectacular or anything, and really not worth making it like this again…)
We played the same little game from last night to get Addison to eat good, with Daddy talking to Emerson, while a quiet little mouse snuck up and stole the bite from his fork.
Emerson was so super sweaty tonight, and desperately needed to get cleaned up. So Jeff took care of cleaning off the table and clearing off all the plates, scraping the leftovers off, while I got Emerson into the shower. The girls then grabbed some snacks and watched a little bit of “Kung Fu Panda,” for a little bit.
I had been planning to make a breakfast casserole over the weekend, but never actually needed it since we ended up having dinner with both sets of our parents. But it takes too long for a weeknight meal after getting home from work and school at 6pm. So instead, while they were watching a movie tonight, I put together the bacon, egg & cheese breakfast casserole and let it bake tonight during the rest of our bedtime routine. So tonight, I made double dinners, and now, dinner for tomorrow night is already ready!
While the casserole was baking, I also flipped through the first week of school papers that Emmie had brought home. I loved this page about her summer. I love the mountain she drew for our visit to West Virginia. And I love the “I loved this summer because… Babby cosin was bourn and I got to se hem.” So so cute, and all her little spelling mistakes are still sweet.
I also love this little paper about first day jitters, saying she was nervous about not making her AR goal. (aka her reading goal) She loves reading, and she’s so proud of herself for her reading level and how much she reads. And that’s so very much like her to be nervous about not meeting that goal. And then of course she also mentioned her “babby cosin” again, but this time she said she was nervous about him going to the “niku.” Ugh, so incredibly sweet.
Her and I did some reading tonight for her bedtime. She forgot her school books in her desk, but luckily we have our own little library right in her room, so she picked one of her own books to read tonight.
Sweet little baby sister fell asleep on the couch next to Daddy, and we just left her there for a little bit before carrying her back to her own bedroom.
And here’s our breakfast casserole for our dinner tomorrow night! Came out looking perfect and smelling yummy. Can’t wait to eat this tomorrow night, with some fruit and biscuits.
I’m going to wash some dishes, and then do the two coats of glue on the back of my puzzle. Jeff and I started watching a Netflix movie last night (can’t remember the name, but it has Harry Connick Jr., and it’s set in Greece; and it’s got me craving falafel and tzatziki and pita even more than I already have been the last week and a half or so), so we’ll finish that up tonight.
