Discovering Ladybugs

Addison Laurel slept in a little bit again this morning (after keeping us up most of the night; she’s been waking up and wanting to play or just hang out almost every night for the last three weeks), but Jeff took her to school just in time for breakfast once she woke up.

My friend Amanda from work brought in more fresh eggs yesterday from the chickens in her back yard, so of course we had to cook them up this morning. I made scrambled egg sammies for Jeff & Emmie (the boys don’t really eat breakfast), and made egg-in-the-hole for myself again. So super yummy. (Accidentally kinda burned my little toast circles, but that was still fine.)

Emmie and I were having our coffee (for me) and warm tea (for her) by the Christmas tree, doing some puzzles, and she requested to watch Survivor while we did that. We actually did two puzzles, and started a third, but didn’t finish that one.

Then girlfriend wanted to take another long soak in the bathtub, so I got her set up with her bath bomb and her Kindle playing “Magic School Bus” on Netflix, and she stayed in there for like 30-45 minutes again. Which is a win for me, because that means I get some quiet time for myself too! So obviously I made a fresh cup of coffee, and watched some more Survivor 😉

Then once she was ready to get out, we busted out her new karaoke machine Grandmommie gave the girls for Christmas, and she had the best time! I left her singing for like 30 minutes, while I showered and got dressed, and I heard her going back and forth from like, “Who Let the Dogs Out” on the sing-along CD, to when she would pause it to sing “Jesus Loves Me.” It was hilarious and sweet.

Then it was lunchtime, so I warmed up a hodge podge of leftovers for both of us, and we started watching the new “Matilda” musical on Netflix. We got about an hour into it, and it was really good so far, she was just getting too antsy to stay and watch more…

Addie Pie, having fun at school today…

Emerson wrapped my scarf up around her head like this all on her own, and she just looked like the cutest little babushka.

Then we head to get outside for a while! We went out to play in the pink playhouse, but the little weirdo was so worried about the ladybugs she kept seeing all over the place. She never actually even went inside it today, just kept squatting all around the doorways, and looking all over the outside, and told me, “I’m discovering ladybugs, Mommy!” She wanted me to come take a closer look too, and she wanted me to try to help her hold one, but we weren’t able to accomplish that.

Whenever she rides her bike in the carport, we always end up playing “daycare,” where she’s dropping off her kid to me (the teacher), and telling me about her day and her feeding schedule and when she’ll be back to pick her up and when she has “busy work meetings” and when the baby has appointments. It’s really cute.

Her and I then made a quick run to Dollar Tree, because I wanted to look for a couple of new wall calendars for the wall in my office, and my fridge at home. Didn’t find any calendars I liked, but we did grab a couple other random things, like this no-touch key thing (I know it’s not the real-deal-anti-germs one), that rang up for literally one cent.

Also, while we were standing in line to check out, an older man & woman walked up to me, handed me a $20 bill, and said, “Merry Christmas!” I literally asked him, “Wait, are you serious?” And he just smiled and nodded and they walked away! That was so nice! Emerson asked me a million questions like, “who was that?” and “why he did that?” and “do we know him?” and “does he go to our church?” and “does he think we’re homeless?” I just told her sometimes people like to bless others and help them out, and I guess that’s what they wanted to do!

When we got to school to pick up Addie, we knew Uncle Bo & Aunt Meggie were on their way too, so we waited for them to all go pick up the triplets together. It was chaos (just like always), but it was fun to see everyone together.

When we got home, I immediately started putting together the cheesy chicken & rice casserole to get in the oven, quickly followed by getting some baby carrots into the air fryer on the “air roast” setting. Then once the carrots were (over)-done, I put in the cheesy garlic bread last.

It was actually just the girls and I for dinner tonight, because Jeff and the boys didn’t make it home in time from their side job in time. They actually got home right as we finished eating, so they made their plates and sat down to eat, and Emerson got on the karaoke machine again and Addison danced along to the music.

After dinner, Jeff moved the karaoke machine into the living room to attach it to the TV (I didn’t know how to do that myself earlier), and all of us had fun singing along together. (Even though you can’t quite tell, the boys really were enjoying it, and singing along with us, to The Backstreet Boys & The Lumineers.)

Our girls were both very sleepy and ready for bed by the time rolled around, and so bedtime actually went super duper easily. Like, way easier than ever before.

Now, the miracle will be if Addison can finally sleep through the night, then Jeff and I will finally get to sleep through the night too. We’ve been exhausted lately, and we really need her to get out of this random sleep regression she’s been going through, so that ALL of us can actually get a good night’s sleep.

Tomorrow morning, we’re introducing the boys to Shipley’s donuts for breakfast, and giving myself a break from all this cooking this week! 🙂
