Countdown to Christmas

We were back to our regularly scheduled programming (routine) today, and drop-off went just as smooth as ever.

I even got to see the triplets before I left school today! They were all the way at the end of the hallway by their room, but when I called out to them from the front, they came running back down the hall to me, shouting, “It’s Aunt Hay-Hay! It’s Halie!”

I got just two photos from school today, but Emmie told me she was good all afternoon, and got to “go in the treasure box and pick a yellow hair clip” since she was good. And Addie had applesauce like all the other big kids for her afternoon snack, so that’s exciting too!

Beautiful sky at pick-up today. I always love these wispy little clouds.

Baby Sister fell asleep on the car ride home, and actually stayed asleep for quite some time after we brought her inside. She almost always wakes up when we carry her in from the car, so you know she’s exhausted when she actually sleeps through that, and all the coming-home commotion!

Then we just had grilled cheese and tomato soup for dinner, eaten in the messy/cluttered living room while watching The Grinch on Netflix. It’s been about two weeks now since I’ve cooked like “normal,” and it’s been weird, but also kind of a nice break.

Both girls had bath time after dinner, and put on fresh jammies, and got ready for bed. Tomorrow is pajama day at school, so they’re already dressed for school now!

Emmie found Jeff’s old Lego slippers, and shuffled around the house in them for a while, but since they’re literally as big as she is, I wouldn’t let her keep doing it, because I was afraid she’d hurt herself in them…

We started reading through all of our Christmas books (which I always pack up with all the Christmas decorations), and tonight we read The Shepherd on The Search, which is sort of the church-version of Elf on the Shelf, in that the Shepherd moves each night, but he’s looking for baby Jesus, and will finally make his way to the stable on Christmas morning. (The problem now is, she carried Sheppy around for most of the day Saturday, and now he’s lost somewhere in the house… hoping I can go find him now that she’s in bed, so we can start the search tomorrow morning.)

We also started our Advent calendar countdown tonight, which she always loves so much.

Meanwhile, this baby Chickpea fell fast asleep as soon as she finished her bottle, and was very quickly a limp little ragdoll snoozing away in Daddy’s arms.

After getting Emerson to sleep though, I had to scoop her up and get some sleepy baby snuggles for myself. There’s just something relaxing and peaceful and serotonin-inducing about a warm, sleepy baby on your chest.

I held her for about 20 minutes, and then decided I’d let her lay down and go to sleep, and she just flopped right out and snoozed away…

While I did bath time with the girls, Jeff took care of cleaning up the kitchen (which wasn’t much to handle with our simple dinner), but now that means there’s nothing for me to do tonight, so we can both get some rest. We’re both about 90% recovered from our stomach bug, but still kind of being careful what we eat and making sure to keep drinking lots of fluids.

I just finished watching “The Guernsey Literary & Potato Peel Pie Society” on Netflix, for about the third time, and it’s such a great movie. If you haven’t seen it yet, I’d highly recommend it, especially if you like historical fiction with some romance.
