Christmas Tree & Recovery

We’re alive! After almost four days of blog-silence, I’m checking in really quick tonight with a super simple recap post, just to say we’re alive, but just barely. Last Friday, Addison had a little stomach bug. Then it hit me late Saturday night, and then it finally got Jeff on Monday. I stayed home from church and work Sunday through Tuesday, and am just now on the tail end of things, feeling better and more like myself, after a three-day stomach bug & recovery…

So let’s start with tonight, because Emmie and I got the Christmas tree finished up, after starting it on Saturday morning. She was SO proud of it, and this photo was taken when she just quietly walked over and stared up at it for a few minutes, and was actually not posed at all. (I need to rearrange a few of her ornament clumps, but she was a super sweet helper and did a good job helping me.)

Let’s work backwards from tonight…

TUESDAY – I felt well enough to drop the girls off at school, then I spent the day napping on & off, and watching a few cheesy Christmas movies. Then I ate my first meal in three days at dinner tonight, we listened to a Perry Como Christmas record, and finished decorating the tree.

MONDAY – Jeff took the girls to school, and they had a rough drop-off, because Emmie is always crazier with him, since it’s not the normal routine. I spent most of the day sleeping, and only ate toast for lunch and a baked potato for dinner. We even asked Nana to come over and help us with the girls’ nighttime routine, since Jeff and I were both feeling so weak and tired.

SUNDAY – Jeff took the girls to church by himself, and I didn’t see any of them basically all day long, because I never even really left my bed or my bedroom. Sunday was definitely the worst day for me, including a 101.8-degree fever at one point.

SATURDAY – we spent the day doing chores around the house and playing outside, and setting up our Christmas tree. Then we hosted friends over for dinner which was super fun, but Emmie ended the night with them by falling out of our hammock and busting her face on a tree root. (I’m sure you’ve seen it in the photos by now, so now you know what it was…)

I’m heading back to work tomorrow, and hoping that all my stomach issues are well and truly behind me at this point. I haven’t taken so many sick days in a row in longer than I can remember (and certainly never so many since having kids), so I felt a little strange and guilty about it, but it was much-needed.

I honestly missed my girls so much over the last few days, because I made sure to keep my distance from them when I was sick (I almost cried Sunday night watching Jeff change Addie and aching to hold her), but I got a few loves in tonight (while still being careful), and we’re still hoping and praying that Emmie doesn’t get the bug. And that her poor little face heals quickly! It’s already in the itchy phase and driving her crazy, so hopefully that’s a good sign.
