We had ourselves a busy little day off for Veteran’s Day today! Started off with “vintage” cinnamon sugar toast, the way my Grandmommie always made it for me when I was little, and how she still makes it for my girls when they’re at her house. (Please notice Addie’s tongue in the first photo.)

Then Emerson got this little rolling gerbil stuck in her hair, and as much as I tried to work it out on it’s own, I ended up having to cut out the very ends of her hair to get it untangled.

We let Jeff sleep in till 10am today, and then we got bundled up and went out to scour more thrift stores, hoping to find the little wooden shelf I’ve decided I want for the wall we styled yesterday.

The girls each found an office chair they liked, and both asked if we could get them. And I was like, “What in the world do you need that for!” And Addison replied, “So I can be an office girl!”

We had lunch at Huey Magoo’s in the middle of our thrifting, and this giant buffalo bleu cheese salad was really delicious.

We went to four or five thrift stores all around town today, and although we didn’t find the kind of shelf I wanted, we did still find a few goodies, of course. You know I’ll always find a few books (especially at the stores that price them cheaper, unlike Goodwill book prices), and I love finding wooden bowls and cute baskets too.

Sweet little helper, watering my plant because she noticed it was looking a little droopy. (I actually just started wondering if this plant doesn’t like this new spot it’s in, now that it’s right on top of one of the heat/air vents in the floor… Gonna have to watch that for a few days, and see if it perks up after some water.)

I ended up taking a quick little 30-to-40-minute cat nap on the couch, with all sorts of hoopla happening all around me, with the tv on and everything. Right after 4pm though, we had to get back out into the world… I made myself a quick little iced latte and headed to the nail salon for a pedicure.

Meanwhile, Jeff and Addison sat through an extra long two-hour gymnastics class for Emerson. (They made it longer to help make up for one day a couple weeks ago when the gym had to close for water pipe issues.)

I got done at the nail salon before gym class was over, but I went straight back home to work on dinner, so it would be ready by the time they got home, since I knew the girls would be exhausted and starving. I made a really simple, warm cozy meal that everyone liked, and Emerson ate about the same amount as I had, after she went back for seconds and then thirds.

It really didn’t take too long before both girls were ready to head to bed, and get started on our bedtime routine. And big ole Pennie wasn’t far behind tonight, wanting to snuggle up and get some extra loves.

Addie in particular was super tired tonight. Her and I sat on the end of the bed reading our bedtime story, with her resting her head against my upper arm, snuggled into my side. I’m pretty sure she actually fell asleep sitting just like that while I read. So when we moved her up the pillows, and tucked her in with an extra snuggly fleece blankie, she was back to sleep pretty much immediately.

And that left some time for me and Emerson to read a little bit of Harry Potter together, before getting her to sleep quickly and easily too.

As usual, I’ve got to go wash up some dishes, and then I need to get cozied up on the couch under my favorite blanket, so I can get warm!
