Cafe con Leche

The girls wanted pancakes for breakfast, and I didn’t feel like cooking, so we went out to Whataburger, where Jeff used enough points and got the pancakes for free.

Then we did a little shopping this morning. We went to Home Goods to look for chocolate actually… I’ve been seeing that Dubai pistachio chocolate bar allll over the place, and want to try it so bad. And I saw a TikTok yesterday that people found it at Home Goods, so I had to go check it out. We didn’t find that, but we did find these other super popular food stools that we’ve seen in tons of videos, which Emmie was very excited to see in real life.

We went to Shoe Station next, because I needed to update my podiatrist-approved every-day sandals, because the pair I’ve had for over a year now were really worn down. I did in fact find a good new pair, even if they do look a little bit like old-lady shoes. I just have to be fine with that these days, since I need a specific type of shoe with my plantar fasciitis, which has actually been bothering me a lot more again these days… And the girls found some cute little slippers to try on while I was trying on my own shoes.

Since we had such a late, big breakfast, we skipped lunch, and immediately got Addison down for her nap once we got home.

Last weekend, we went to Home Depot to pick up all the supplies for a little project to fix our old arch lamp that we used to have over the couch that broke a while back. But today, he finally had some time to start working on that project, even though he didn’t quite finish it yet.

I got a big load of dishes washed up, and Emmie tidied up the living room a little bit for me. Then I set up all my shoes and Home Goods goodies to snap a pic to send to my mama. I liked the shoes I found so much, and they were on sale, so I got two pairs in two colors. Then we found three candles, all on sale too, plus a stack of cute cups with oranges and some Mexican mocha coffee to try out. (I had actually tried to order the new Mexican hot chocolate iced coffee at Whataburger this morning, but they were unfortunately all out.)

Once Addison woke up from her nap, both girls changed outfits into something comfy for the warmer afternoon, since it wasn’t quite so cold as it was first thing this morning. The girls packed their little bags with jammies and hair brushes and Elsa Barbie, and we went out to Grammy and Papa’s house!

Papa got out his little Cuban moka pot to make espresso on the gas stove, and made us all cafe con leche for an afternoon coffee treat.

My mom and I worked together to make a big ole pot of chili, and then Papa made grilled cheese to go with it for dinner. Addison ate an entire bowl of chili, and Emerson ate most of her bowl and a whole sandwich. They were starving after skipping lunch and playing so hard at Grammy’s house. And since they ate so well, they had popsicles for dessert, before getting in the bath to get cleaned up.

We had a little bit more free time to hang out after bath time, so Addie had a little snack, and Emmie and Grammy were cracking up looking at “fancy VW hippy mobility scooters” and then we all really died when Emmie saw something that made her think they were free. She just kept going on & on about the free VW hippy scooters and how she would drive around their neighborhood with them in matching scooters. I was just about laughing so hard I couldn’t breathe.

This baby sister was also super silly and goofy and on the edge of delirious, but she had a little melatonin gummy before we left their house, and she was out cold about five minutes into our 30-minute drive home.

After our side-by-side reading time last night, Emerson decided she wanted to make it part of our nightly routine together, so we cuddled up together in her bed again to read our books. We were both ready to close up our books, when we both finished a chapter at the same time. And it was a funny coincidence that we had both made it to chapter eight at the same time too.

Today was a great day with our little family, and spending time with parents and grandparents, and I’m thankful for all of it!
