Bath Robes & Pink Toes

First of all, thank you to all the amazing men and women who have bravely served our country. I could never do it myself, but I am incredibly grateful for those who have. And thank you for an extra holiday to celebrate!

This sweet girl and I got to sleep in until about 8am. (Pretzel to be at the vet for a check-up 7:30, but Jeff was nice enough to take him and let me sleep.) It was chilly when we woke up, so we both put on our super was & cozy bath robes, and watched cartoons together all snuggled up on the couch. (This isn’t flattering of me, but who cares, the memory is what counts.)

She also wanted to use her blanket Grandmommie made her to keep warm.

Jeff brought home breakfast from Whataburger, and Emmie loved her egg & cheese biscuit and hash browns. But she definitely ate more of the hash browns than anything. Jeff had gotten us two 4-packs to share with the three of us – Emmie had 4, Jeff had 3, and I had 1! 😆

Only 1 hash brown for me was perfectly fine though, because he got me the new breakfast burger to try, and there are actually hash browns on the burger. And it was reallyyyy good. Whatever sauce they put on it is delicious and I want to buy it in a squeeze bottle and put it all the things.

I love OJ with breakfast, but mama still needs her coffee. So I made a pot and took a cup (and eventually a second) to sit in Emmie’s room while she played with all her toys and babies.

Then she wanted to play in her crib, and she was pretending to put her babies to sleep. She was patting them on the back and covering them up with blankets. In this first photo below, she was moving the baby’s hand saying, “keep your hands to yourself baby.” And I’m guessing they are teaching them that at school 😝

Then she needed more babies and animals, so I passed her more, and she kept saying “Everybody Mommy, everybody!”

We finally moved back into the living room, and did some coloring and reading. She also wanted her toes pink again, so I painted her toes and told her “be still, don’t move, don’t wiggle your toes,” about 1,000 times…

Emmie had cheese noodles and a granola bar for lunch, and then I got her down for her nap around 12:30. Then I got dinner started, by throwing some chicken & onions & such in the Crock-Pot. I’m trying another new recipe today, for Crock-Pot Chicken & Dumplings. (It didn’t go quite as well as I wanted, but more on that later…)

We had a few slices of the fancy brioche bread leftover from the French toast casserole recipe I made yesterday, so I used that to make grilled cheese sandwiches for Jeff and my lunch, plus a little bit of tomato soup.

Emmie woke up around 2:30, so we all drove to the other side of town to pick up Pretzel from the vet (we use Banfield inside PetSmart). She loved looking at the fish & the birds, and was saying “hi” to the turtles.

She was playing with this little panda bear (a souvenir from the San Diego Zoo from Aunt Meggie & Uncle Bo in 2017), and moving his little arm around saying, “he’s waving hi, Mommy!”

After we brought Pretzel back home, we took Emerson to play on the playground by our house. The weather was beautiful, and it was so nice to get some family time outside in the afternoon sunshine! We walked up and down the boardwalk a few times, and watched all the puppies play at the dog park, and she did the slides about 15 times.

We came back home to do the next step in the crock-pot meal, and then spent a few minutes playing in the backyard. It was beautiful out there, but the mosquito’s came out and so we only lasted about 10 minutes.

But we had lots of fun playing inside while waiting for dinner!

I love her little crossed legs sitting on the stool.

OK so the dinner… it was good, but definitely needed some serious tweaks. The carrots & celery should have been put in with the chicken (I should have known better), because they weren’t cooked through enough. And the biscuits need to be cooked separately, and then just added on top when served. I put them in crock-pot as the recipe instructions directed, and after an hour, they were still raw. So I scooped them all out & baked them in a messy heap on a small baking tray, and then plopped them on each individual bowl.
After serving up our bowls, I left all the rest of it in the crock-pot for another 2+ hours, to cook a little longer, so the veggies could soften up. All-in-all, it’s a decent recipe, but I get super frustrated with things like this, when I follow exactly what the recipe says, and it still doesn’t turn out right. Womp womp womp… 😏

After dinner, we all went to brush our teeth together and get Emerson’s jammies on for bedtime. We laid in our bed for a little bit cuddling and watching some night-night videos.

Then we went to her bedroom, and I wanted to change her diaper. It wasn’t actually wet, but she had been wearing it for a while, and it had been taken on & off at least once with some “potty training attempts.” But she didn’t want to take it off, and got VERY MAD at me about it. She threw a little fit and started screaming, but I wrestled the new diaper on her. But she was good & angry now, and she only wanted Daddy. It took him about 10 minutes to calm her down, and she just did not want Mommy. Jeff asked her, “Are you mad at Mommy?” and she said, “yeahhhh.” He said, “well can you forgive her?” and she said, “noooo.” So he sang “Jesus Loves Me” two times while holding her like this, and she was finally calm and chill and then let me h old her and give her kisses.

The life of a busy, tired toddler is hard sometimes, and even a simple, clean diaper can spell disaster for unwitting parents. But seriously, we had a great day all together, and I love all the extra time we got to spend as a little family.

I blogged first tonight, so now I’ve gotta go wash some dishes. Jeff is working on some laundry, and then we’ll make hot tea and watch some tv before reading and heading to bed.
