$4 Coat & 100 Books

You guys! All of a sudden, Florida just decided to begin winter overnight! Since it was a mere 34° when I dropped off Emerson at school at 7:30 a.m., she got to wear not only a new outfit (from Old Navy) but also the new-to-her coat we got for the low low price of $4 at the One Week Boutique last month! It’s super soft and cozy, and she loved it. And of course she looks adorable in it! Glad we were thinking ahead and bought a new one, knowing we would need it eventually, so we were prepared this morning.

I tried to her about the cheetahs on her shirt, but I’m pretty sure she was confusing them with Cheetos instead 🤣

I had forgotten the last couple of days about the leftover cinnamon apple French toast casserole from Sunday, but I was more than happy to have a giant chunk of it for breakfast at the office this morning. I even brought my own tiny cup of powdered sugar to shake on top after microwaving it! And of course it was delicious.

For lunch, I had last night’s leftovers, and then painted my nails while I listened to my audiobook on my phone for 30 minutes. It is due back in three days, and I still have a little over five hours of listening time left. If other people didn’t have holds on it, I could renew it for another three weeks, which would give me more than enough time. But there are tons of holds (so it will automatically disappear at the end of my 3-week lending term), and it would take another six months before it was my turn again! So I’m definitely going to try to cram in all the listening I can over the next few days, so I can finish it. I’m a little over 75% of the way through the book, and I can’t quit at this point!

Speaking of books, I did end up finishing my library book last night before bed, and it was really good! Four (out of five) stars for “Tuesday Mooney Talks to Ghosts,” although I feel like that title does absolutely nothing for it… 🤷🏼‍♀️ Anyways, that was the 100th book I’ve read this year! My Goodreads Challenge goal was 100, so now I’ve met my goal, and we still have 1½ months left to go this year. Although I have slowed down my reading lately, I can definitely say this year will be my most-read number of books for sure.

Grammy has been sick for the past few days, so she didn’t get to pick up Emerson like she usually does on Wednesday’s. But when I got to school, Emerson looked very concerned and said “Where’s Gammy?” I told her she was sick, and Emerson told about three or four of her teachers on the way out, with deep concern etched into her tiny, adorable face. But we called Grammy from the car for a few minutes, and then met the rest of the family for dinner at Hopkins before church, and that seemed to lift her spirits.

Grandmommy and Granddaddy used to always give Megan and I the last sips from their coffee cups when we were little. Today, Grandmother gave Emerson the last sip of her coffee, and she loved it, and it was really cute.

Emerson had her own grilled cheese sandwich, of which she ate about half, but then she also had anywhere from 2-6 bites of sandwich from me, daddy, and Aunt Suzanne.

Luckily, my cough has improved greatly over the last few days, and it mostly only bothers me at bedtime. I mean, that’s inconvenient for me when I’m trying to go to sleep, but at least I’m not hacking so much throughout the day. So that meant I was able to sing mostly normal tonight for choir. I was supposed to have worship choir at 6:10, Christmas choir at 7;00, and praise team at 7:45…

However, I ended up leaving around 7:15, so I could follow Jeff home. He is having some back pain lately, and went to the doctor the other day and they think it’s a pinched nerve. He took some pain pills right before church started, which made him extremely tired. He didn’t feel like it was safe for him to drive home by himself, especially not with Emerson in the car, since he was planning to take her home early.

I hated to miss out on Christmas choir and praise team rehearsal, but I’m glad we all made it home safe and sound. Jeff went straight to bed, and ended up falling asleep by 8pm, while I got Emerson ready for bed. She hemmed and hawed and stalled for a bit, and whined and put up a small fight, but I laid her down around 8:30.

I made a cup of tea for just myself tonight, and since Jeff was already asleep, I made this Honey Vanilla Chamomile flavor that he doesn’t like. (I know we could each choose our own flavor since we make it in individual mugs, but it’s usually easier to just grab one box we both like.)

Now that I’m finishing up this blog post, I’ve queued up the the eighth season of “Call the Midwife” on Netflix, beginning with the Christmas special. I love this show! I first started watching the series around the time of my maternity leave (or maybe after? can’t remember…), and I’ve loved keeping up with it as they add new seasons on Netflix every year.

Praying Jeff can get some good rest, and we would appreciate it if yall would say a prayer for quick recovery for him as well. Now, it’s time for tea and tv and peace and quiet for this girl.
