I know people always say the same cliche stuff like, “how is it August already?” But I genuinely want to know, because I feel like Christmas was about two weeks ago… But here we are – August 1st!
Emerson was truly so excited to find the pockets on her little dress this morning! She was instantly obsessed! And who can blame her? What girl (little or grown) doesn’t love pockets on their dress?!
She walked all the way down the hallway and to her classroom, with her little hands still stuffed in her pockets.
I didn’t finish this library book last night (we ended up watching part of “Unbroken”), but I did finish it on my break this morning. This book was about the extremely fascinating topic of the Korean haenyeo, of which I knew nothing of before. The book spans from the 1930’s, through 2008, with most of the story happening before the 1970’s era. I found the subject of the haenyeo very interesting, but of course the parts about Japanese occupation during & after WWII, followed by the Korean War, were very difficult to read, due to some graphic violence. Having said that though, I still really, really liked this book and this story. This is only my second book by Ms. See, but I plan on going back through her catalog now, after loving both this one and “The Tea Girl of Hummingbird Lane” so much. (On another note, this is the 70th (!!!) book I’ve either read or listened to so far this year, which exceeds any other year of reading. I’m on a roll!)
So on my lunch break, I went to the library to return “Sea Women” (only six days late), and picked up two more of my holds while I was there. “The River” is another brand new book, featured on Anne Bogel’s summer reading guide, and “Forever Lisel” was written by the actress who played the oldest Von Trapp daughter in “The Sound of Music.” I actually read the memoir of Agathe Von Trapp last week, who was the real life oldest Von Trapp child. It was sort of good, but also a little bit boring, but I’m interested to seeing how the actresses memoir compares.
We got TONS of great pictures from Emerson’s teacher today, so here are just some of them. She clearly had a great day!
The caption on the photo below said she liked her yogurt at snack time, but not the blueberries, and so she picked them all out, and put them on the table next to her…
The caption on this photo said she was checking the gas gauge on her car, haha!
Today was the first day all week she made it through the whole day without needing an outfit change, after spilling water from her new cups. So I’m proud of her for that! At home, she had some more Cheetos from this bag she’s been working on for a few days (since we only let her have a few at a time).
Then we had hot dogs & Velveeta shells and cheese for dinner. This was not the meal I had planned on making, but apparently I forgot a couple things in my grocery trip over the last weekend, so I didn’t have some things I needed. So a quick menu change was in order, and we’ll have the other meal another night, maybe tomorrow if I can make it to Publix or Trader Joe’s after work tomorrow. Emmie was struggling with the hot dog on her own though (check out what happened below!), but once she let me hold it and help her, she ate almost the entire thing, plus lots of shells! (I maybe should have cut it up for her, but she wanted to eat it like we were…)
Look at my pretty new phone cover hubby got for me! I love it! (My old clear one was getting dingy & discolored, and I was just ready for a change.) Now I just need to find a matching pop-socket, because I love having one, but my old one doesn’t match.
Daddy and both did bath time tonight, and Emmie did all the coloring.
Then we put on her Sleepy-Saurus jammies, and combed down all her crazy hair. She kept asking for a cookie (because she saw the on the counter where her brother’s had left them earlier), so we plopped her on the couch and let her have a couple. Clearly she thought it was a good idea.
I did her books and prayers and lullabies and bedtime tonight, and she was so incredibly sweet. I was talking to her quietly, and telling her how much I loved her, and that I would always protect her and take care of her, and she just kept looking right at me, slowly nodded, and said “yes” in her teeny tiny voice. The past few nights, I’ve been teaching her to rub the tips of our noses together, we used to call them “Eskimo kisses,” so we did that after our chat, and my heart was so full.
Jeff and the boys are actually working on dishes together while I blog (there aren’t that many, since we used disposable plates tonight), so we can get done with chores quickly, and finish watching “Unbroken.”
