For what felt like the first time in forever (please sing that in your head like Anna from “Frozen”), I got up and showered and dressed and ready to head out the door to go to church! I was running just a few minutes late, so I had to choose between make-up & no coffee, or getting coffee and putting my make-up on at church… So obviously the choice was to stop for a large coffee!
There were still very small numbers of church-goers in our two services today, and all were wearing masks (although our pastor emailed the commissioners & got special permission for us to take them off while singing and preaching on stage only), but it was good to be back in church with other people.
Jeff brought Emmie and the boys to sit up in the balcony for the 11am service, but little Miss Priss couldn’t quite sit still or be quiet, so they spent a good portion of the service in the foyer.
I brought Ryan and Emerson straight home, while Jeff and Gabe went through the drive-thru at DQ, and brought it home to eat lunch at the coffee table (since the dining table is covered in cabinet doors, screws & hinges).
I got Emmie down for a late nap around 1:30, and decided to lay down and rest myself. I usually feel guilty taking afternoon naps, when there is so much work that needs to be done around the house, but sometimes you just need to rest! So I slept for two hours! Emmie napped for about 2.5, and Jeff fell asleep on the couch for a while too.
Once we all got up and got moving, everyone grabbed a snack, and then we started playing and tidying up.
Ryan and Emmie were playing together with this blow-up beach ball, and when he reached across her one time to grab her or do something, his forearm hit her face, and she hollered, “your arm bit my face!”
Jeff made a quick trip to Home Depot for some shims (?) to help hang the cabinet doors, and then we worked on attaching more hinges when he got back.
First two doors finally on, and looking beautiful!! I absolutely love the mix of the white and gold together. And everything is just so fresh & bright!
I had a coupon for BOGO free pizza’s from Munchies, so we ordered two pizza’s for dinner tonight. Ryan, Emerson and I went to pick them up, while Jeff & Gabe stayed home and kept working on screwing on more hinges. (That’s a long, slow process.)
After dinner, while I washed up the random assortment of dirty cups & dishes from the last few days, Jeff & Gabe continued working on the cabinets, and Ryan took Emerson outside for some playtime. But Emerson was dying for Mommy to come outside too, so I had to go out and join them. She was very excited to show me how she jumped up the steps, and the snail that bubba found.
When it was time to come inside and cool down before dinner time, she jumped up on the couch next to Pretzel (he looks alarmed because Jeff was using the drill), and pretended to snore again like she did last night.
She grabbed some fruit snack gummies, and laid on the couch and just chatted my ear off, with a whole rambling diatribe of nonsense (that I wrote down every word of)…
“When Daddy was in a little house, he was playing with it and he got cut and he had to use some nice little scissors, and it was yucky but it was on a birdhouse. And he had toooo…. and um, the bear was getting tested too, and um, the baby little puppy was going to get tested too. They’re all to the doctor, and now I can’t see the little puppy.”
Also, this poor nugget lost her pinky toenail tonight. It’s been all weird and gray and wonky for a few months now, but in the car waiting for pizza tonight, she must have snagged it on something, because she started screaming. While she was playing outside with Ryan, it finally just fell off. Well, at least mostly. I put some neosporin and a bandaid on it at bedtime, and hopefully she’ll be all good in the morning 😉
We kept her up a little late while Jeff was banging around and putting more of the cabinet doors back on, so once she had one cracker, and one book, she was really easy to get down for bedtime.
And here’s our progress shot so far! We got six of the upper doors put back on today. We are working to screw the hinges onto the other six doors tonight and mark the holes on the cabinet faces, and then they’ll be ready to hang tomorrow night. (I’m really hating all the mess all over the fridge, so something’s going to need to be done to tone all that down a bit…)
This project is definitely taking quite a while, but it’s starting to finally come together. I’m still so excited to see the final product, even though it will end up taking at least a full month before we finally finish!
