Yardbirds

Hey, I’m back! I took a much-needed two whole days to rest and reset after all the chaos of Christmas day, and the days leading up to it. Most of Friday and Saturday was spent on the couch, with very little else going on. The girls spent those two days playing in the backyard, just like wildlings back in the 90’s. But then Saturday night, we finally saw Nana & PopPop for the first time in over a month, and did Christmas with them at their house! Oh also, one of Jeff’s twin boys, Gabe, is here with us for a few days!

Then this morning, we were all back in the usual routine, up and at ’em early to serve at church. Jeff was back in the tech booth as production manager and running lights, and I was singing on the worship team. (He took these two photos during early rehearsal.)

Then by Gabe’s request, we went to Raising Cane’s for lunch after church.

Addison and I both laid down in my bed to have a cozy little afternoon nap together, and she slept for about two hours. (I didn’t nap great myself, but I did get some reading done while we were back there.) When I woke up, we had two service techs from MetroNet in our house, trying to fix our internet, which has been horrible over the past week or so. Luckily, they did eventually get things worked out, with some new equipment and such, so hopefully all is good now.

And now for a random break to show off a few of our new ornaments we added to the tree this year. Addie got this tiny Dobby in a mystery packet in her stocking, and he’s so cute. (Emerson got one too, but she got a tiny Ron, which we already had a “regular” size one.)

I got both myself and Megan these cute matching “Sisters, Sisters” ornament, from one of my favorite Christmas movies, “White Christmas,” from this clip.

And I bought this cute decoupaged seashell from our BGMC Missions Market last month from one of our fifth grade boys who made this with his family, and I love this one!

OK so once I woke up, I washed up some dishes while the tech guys were still there working with Jeff, and the girls were in the backyard running wild. They’ve literally been out here like this for three days now, running barefoot and getting dirty, and climbing through trees and bushes getting scratches on their arms and legs and tummies. We’ve been calling them Wild Girls all weekend. I’ve honestly been so happy they’re out there, and proud of how they’ve been playing, and just really using their imaginations! They’ve needed a bath three nights straight, and just been the happiest, dirtiest little girlies! Their new nicknames are “Mud Pie” instead of Addie Pie, and “Wild Mother” for Emmie, which is from a Bluey episode called “Wild Girls.”

Woulda look at these ringlets under all that hair!?

So we got them in the bath around 5:30, so that I could get them cleaned and dressed, and then get started on dinner. Tonight was classic “spaghetti” with meat sauce, except y’all know I know use regular spaghetti noodles, because I like short pasta instead, so tonight was penne noodles.

And as much as we struggle to get Addison to eat real meals (the girl just wants a million snacks alllll day!), she absolutely killed her pasta tonight, and joined the clean bowl club with the rest of the family! I was so proud of her!!

After dinner, she quickly climbed up in the chair to cuddle with her bubba, while we watched “Bolt.” Emerson was all snuggly on the couch with Pennie, and Jeff and I were working on my Christmas puzzle.

Addison found this Christmas onesie in her drawers, and insisted on wearing it. I didn’t think she would like it very much, but she slept in it last night and absolutely loved it, and was so excited to sleep in it again tonight! She also put it on for nap time this afternoon too. But why does it make her look so long!?

OK and one more story time… one of my favorite Christmas presents from my parents this year was this record by “The Yardbirds” that they randomly found in a vintage store on vacation a while back. So, on the wrapping paper, my mom had written “Yardbird,” instead of my name, because my Granddaddy used to call me Yardbird. I read that and said, “OK that’s cute but I’m not gonna cry. Gonna just open this up and move on…” But then when I opened it and saw what it was, that plan was out the window, because then I definitely cried. They got it for me strictly because it was my nickname, because I used to always run around my grandparents’ backyard barefoot and crazy. And now, days after getting this record, my girls have been running around like little Yardbirds for days themselves. And I just love it all so much.

I’m watching a little Netflix docu-series (I’ve finally gotten my fill of Christmas movies for the season), and I’m going to put on some of my little nail wraps that I like using. Unfortunately, I have to go back to work tomorrow, but at least it’s it’s for only a day and a half….
