So last week, I posted about watching the “Cheer” documentary on Netflix, and it had me feeling super nostalgic. So as I watched the finale episode last night, I dug through a giant box of old photos from middle school, high school and college. I mean, literally thousands of printed photos, anywhere from 8 to 20 years old! One day, maybe we’ll work on scanning a lot more of them. But for now, here are some of the best cheerleading ones I could find!
Just a few from the JV days, circa 2001-2003…
And then onto Varsity, roughly from 2003-2006…
And man, all these old photos made me so grateful for the amazing photos our phones can take these days. There are very few photos of us actually stunting or jumping, because the old point-&-shoot cameras with flash were far too slow to capture that movement, and even then, the color and lighting were so crazy. (Jeff actually scanned all these in for me and cleaned them up and edited them a little, so they’re better than before at least!)
These were my two friends from church, Sarah and Allison, who also cheered, but at Leon, not with me at NFC.
Our annual National competition was in Orlando every year, and our senior year some of our best guy friends and boyfriend’s came down for a few days to watch and support us.
I think we had a game on Halloween one year, so I think that’s why we were wearing the silly hats? I don’t really remember…
I’m super thankful for my time as an NFC cheerleader, and for the friends and coaches I spent so much time with for those years. We worked hard, and we were pretty good, but we also had a lot of fun! I miss those days a lot, and I miss those girls a lot. And of course I’m hoping Emerson grows up to be a cheerleader too, along with her three cousins!
