We were all very sleepy this morning, and actually overslept a little bit. But we still got the girls up and dressed and out the door, and they both had smiles on their faces!
Then tonight, after picking up both girlies, we found a place to park at Gilchrist, and we went to Open House night! We got to visit the art room, and the music room, and her gifted classroom as well.
And then we got to visit her regular third grade class room. They had each made a “mini me” and propped it up in their seats, and covered up all the names on their desks, and the parents were supposed to find their kid. Well I knew this was my girl right away, with her braces, choker, earrings & pony tail! She always draws such cute details on her little self-portraits, which you can see in a few different pieces of her art we saw tonight.
Oh, and she was very proud of the little natural blonde highlights in her hair, that she included with this drawing too.
It’s kinda hard to read this, so I’ll type it out to save here for posterity…
“This year, I want to learn how to… do many things. In third grade I will learn how to play the recorder and I will learn how to write in cursive. I want to learn how to play the recorder so I can play instruments with other people. I also want to learn how to write in cursive so I can sign my name. I will achieve my goals with grit and with hard work. Third grade will be out of this world. By Emerson.” {I personally love the “grit and hard work” phrase!}
It was almost 7pm by the time we left the school, so we went across the street to Sonny’s for dinner. They have this fun little craft corner for the kids, and the girls stayed there all by themselves for the whole 20-ish minutes we ordered & waited for our food. They were totally content to just stay there and do some crafts, and I loved that! Kept them entertained, and allowed Jeff and I to actually talk to each other 🙂 One of Emmie’s school friends was also there, and she was able to hang out and color with them too.
I keep saying lately how Emerson seems to be going through a growth spurt, and eating way more than I expect of her, and more sometimes. Tonight was no exception. The minute I told her where we were gonna go for dinner, she had already decided she wanted ribs and mac & cheese, and girlfriend cleaned her plate!
We had to bribe and convince Addison to simply finish her little mac & cheese bowl, but she finally did it, after way too long and lots of encouragement. (Plus a literal bribe to buy her candy from a candy store when we go out of town this coming weekend.) We got started on bedtime books and hugs and lullabies as soon as we got home, and things went smooth and easy. Emmie was out very quickly, and I think Addie was too.
Luckily, eating dinner out means no dishes to wash for me. But I do need to have Jeff start up a load of laundry, so that we’ll all have plenty of clean clothes for our upcoming mini vacay this three-day weekend!
