Despite a late church night last night, the girls actually woke up early today, and everyone left home on time / early! And everyone was smiling and happy and in a good mood.
So I had been “saving” this skirt for Addison for Wednesday, in case they sent home her “chapel shirt” that she’ll wear every Wednesday through the year. She had actually been asking to wear it every day this week, so today I told her she could finally, and she picked out this cute pink shirt on her own to go with it.
Today was The Frother’s Daughter’s last day bringing their truck to our office this summer. Since the FSU students will be back in town now, their truck will be on campus most days during the semester. So I got one more “The Breakfast Club,” which has got to be one of my favorite drinks they’ve ever had. I also completed my summer sips challenge punch card, so now I just have to visit their store to pick up the t-shirt!
When I got to NFC to pick up Addison after school today, all the little preschool kiddos were out on the playground together. This was the first time I had picked her up from there (she had been inside all the other days so far), but she was laughing and swinging and playing with a friend, and so happy! As soon as she came over to pick up her backpack though, she immediately sat down to pull her water bottle out, and sat there drinking for like two minutes straight before she would walk to the car.
Then once we picked up Emerson from school, she started working on her math homework on the way home. Addison pulled out her lunchbox to finish up the last of the snacks she had in her box, and was proud to show me once she was finishing up the last couple of bites.
This year, Emerson’s teacher gave us all the information to sign in to their class stuff from home, so I got that all set up for her last night. Then tonight, she was actually so excited to sit down at Daddy’s big computer and do more school work, doing some math and grammar! She also picked a book off her own bookshelf in her room, read it twice, and then took an AR test on it, and scored a 100%! (She ended up reading another book right at bedtime, and took another test.)
While Emmie was doing homework, Addie had a bath, I washed dishes, and also baked three little thin crust pizzas for our dinner. These are the California Pizza Kitchen brand, and they were all really good. We had margherita, white with spinach, and bbq chicken. I loved the margherita, the girls ate the bbq, and Jeff had some of all of it.
I got Emerson in the shower after dinner, and then we all watched a couple episodes of Bluey together. Next up was books and bedtime, and snuggles with a giant Pennie-dog, who thinks she’s just a tiny cuddle-dog.
I absolutely love this picture of my tiny girl! She just looks so stinking sweet!
These first two weeks of third grade have felt like Emmie just grew up by another huge leap in such a short time. She’s been doing more homework, and taking more big girl showers, and wearing her little hair turban towel after the shower. And she’s just seemed more big girl. But then she’ll do something cute and silly like pretending to take a pill, that’s really just a Skittle, with a sip of water for her nighttime medicine, and it reminds me she’s still just a goofy little kid and I love it.
So Jeff and I finished that five-part docu-series about Hurricane Katrina on Disney last night. I was only 17 when that happened, and I was really in my own little bubble here in Florida, and didn’t really know anything about what happened over in Louisiana. Now though, it’s crazy to learn how awful it truly was, and just the horrors that tens of thousands of people went through. It was hard to see all of that, but a very good docu-series. If you’re like me and don’t know much about it, or even if you did, I’d definitely recommend watching it.
Next up, we’re gonna watch a one-part documentary on the tsunami that hit like 14 counties in the Pacific back in 2004, which I also know next to nothing about. I honestly love true-crime stories and documentaries, and just learning about things and places and people that are outside all of my “normal stuff.”
