Emerson’s school bag finally got upgraded from the clear tote bag to the clear backpack last Friday, after she begged and whined for one, so we paid the $6 for the backpack 😉
And she was just so stinking excited about it!! And of course she was adorable carrying it into school this morning, even if it’s bigger than she is!
We had chicken tacos for dinner tonight, with our usual yellow rice and black beans on the side. Also, check out that crazy-huge bag of shredded fiesta cheese I got in my Walmart grocery order the other day as a substitution – I requested an 8oz bag, and they upgraded me to a 32oz bag, for the same price! So now we’re gonna be puttin two pounds of cheese on everything for a while! haha 😉
Right after making our plates and getting everything ready for dinner, we had a huge bathroom freak-out. She told us she needed to go potty, and started asking for a diaper. We took her to the bathroom instead, and she got mad. She got so mad though a little bit of pee came out. We got all excited for her and told her we were proud of her, and she calmed down and we went to the dinner table.
But as soon as we put her in her seat, she started freaking out again, and asking for a diaper. So we went back to the bathroom again, but this time, she absolutely lost her mind. She was freaking out and screaming and crying, but we were holding her sweetly and trying to calm her down, but it wasn’t helping. So for about a minute straight, she screamed and cried, and then she got so mad she finally peed on the potty!!! We once again got super excited for her, and told her we were so proud of her, and we loved her so much. She started calming down as she washed her hands, and we told her she could have a piece of chocolate before dinner.
The whole terrible experience was hard for all of us, and it didn’t feel like a victory of any sort… I doubt this will be the first of many successful potty trips, but it was at least the first pee on the potty for Mommy & Daddy!
She was still a little down at the start of dinner (see those pitiful red eyes), but she was loving her taco and sour cream, so she started perking up as she ate more.
And by the end of dinner, she was back to her silly self, roaring and growling like a dinosaur with every bite.
We wanted to reward her a little more, so we let her have a small bowl of ice cream, and while Jeff fixed her bowl, she was jumping around and playing with her letter magnets and singing the ABC’s so excitedly, being super cute. And then she was super cute eating her ice cream with Daddy!
Oh, as I mentioned the other day, I had some fresh cilantro in the fridge, so I stuck a few stalks in a mason jar with a bit of water, and I’m hoping it’ll root, and I can plant it in my backyard herb garden soon. I don’t really know what I’m doing though, so we’ll see how it turns out…
We cuddled and watched some videos together before bedtime, and then she asked to cuddle with her giant chick, and then picked this book about chicks for her bedtime story. I was so impressed she paired the two together like that, all on her own.
She was having a few Cheez-it’s for a bedtime snack and got thirsty, so we went back to the dining room for her water cup. And there was a cat sitting in our front yard, just like 10 feet from the front windows! (It’s that gray spot in the bottom center window pane.) We sat there watching him, with him staring back, for a few minutes, and she was loving it. She was so excited and kept pointing at home, and making sure we saw him too.
After that, we did our usual little girl-chat time, and she was being such a silly goose. But then she wouldn’t calm down and stop flopping around and chatting, so I told her firmly she needed to chill out for bedtime, but she wanted Daddy to do lullabies instead, so he took over. I got all the dishes washed, and the leftovers put away, and now it’s time to sit down and chill…
