We slept in to the super late hour of 7am today (yes, that actually is late for Emerson), and then shortly after we got started on our next baking project. I made Jam Filled Muffins from Everyday Reading. I was out of almond extract, and I substituted Greek yogurt for sour cream, and it was delicious!!
You put some of the batter in, then top it with a scoop of jelly, and then top it with more batter.
Some of them exploded a little, because I must not have topped them completely, but that was still fine.
They turned out delicious! I mean for real, they were sooo goooood.
We did all sorts of playing this morning, and made all sorts of messes. She also wore her panties all morning, and she kept sitting down on her potty. We even toted it back and forth whenever we changed rooms.
We eventually cleaned up her room, and things were looking much better.
WOW. This room was an absolute wreck… We cleaned up most of it right after this photo, and then while she ate a hot dog for lunch, I did some more cleaning up, and vacuumed the living room.
So even though she had been wearing panties all morning, and sitting on the potty off & on, she never peed, or had an accident. I told her she had to pee before I would give her a diaper for nap time, so she sat down on the potty again. But she would not go. We watched little kid potty videos on YouTube, made her drink lots of Powerade, we watched running water videos, and then re-located to the bathroom so we could turn on the faucet. (She even watched me go, but that didn’t help either.)
Even after sitting on the tiny potty for like 45 minutes between lunch and nap, she still never peed in the potty. So I just gave up and put a diaper on her, and laid her down for nap time, and I’m sure she peed in the diaper before she fell asleep. And it was super full when she woke up…
After I laid her down, I made myself lunch, and then got working on some more chores. In this picture, the kitchen was still messy with a sink full of dirty dishes, but the living room looked great! I got the kitchen cleaned and all the dishes washed, and everything was so nice 🙂
I had forced Jeff to wake up early with us while I was baking, but he was super tired and grumpy, so I told him to go back to bed for a while, because I didn’t want to deal with his grumpiness… So after that, he ended up sleeping till like 1pm. He got some coffee & ate lunch, and then felt better, and got busy making up for all that sleeping, by getting started on yard work, while I wrote the first half of this blog.
Emerson napped for about two hours, and I was very glad to have a little bit of quiet time to myself. After she woke up, she requested a snack and a drink, so I set her up on the counter, while I made myself a special afternoon drink. Have y’all seen that super trendy whipped coffee all over the internet lately? Well, I made it today! I went ahead and made a few adjustments (half the amount of instant coffee, and creamer instead of milk since I was out), but it turned out delicious! It was nice and sweet and super creamy, and definitely a nice treat.
We played some more and watched Daddy mow the back yard, and then read some books and played in her room for a bit. Since it had been raining on & off most of the day, we hadn’t yet been outside, so we finally went out into the front yard and just ran back and forth a few times, trying to run off some of her excess energy.
Then we went to Ricardo’s to pick up the take & bake pizza & secret bread I called to order earlier. (I also ran into Publix by myself really quick for a gallon of milk and some more coffee, and I grabbed some BOGO Ritz crisps I passed on the way in, which are one of my fave chips.)
Oh, and we continued the “potty training” all afternoon after nap time. Her diaper was in fact soaking wet when she woke up from her nap. Then we sat her down again multiple times through the afternoon, but she still wouldn’t go…
They forgot to give us the garlic butter (or maybe I was supposed to ask for it specifically? I don’t know…), so I improvised and made some of my own. And y’all, this pizza and bread was sooo good! Even though Ricardo’s is my favorite Italian restaurant in town, but I had never had their pizza before. I’m pretty sure they use the same (or similar) recipe as their bread for the pizza, and it was delicious.
Emerson was very sweet and said the blessing for our supper tonight, saying “thank you for family, thank you for food, thank you for sleep.”
We went back to sit her on the potty for a bit after dinner, and we sat there for a while, doing all the tricks again, but she still wouldn’t go. We tried her tiny potty, and the big potty with the little seat insert, but nothing worked. She still wouldn’t go. Reminder – she woke up from her nap around 3:15 pm, and by 7:15 she still hadn’t peed again.
So we went ahead and got her ready for bed, then did books and hugs and lullabies. This girl is such a cheeser!
And then literally 45 seconds after I walked out of her rooms, she started screaming and crying because she had finally peed in her diaper, and had instantly leaked out because she had been holding it for so long. So Jeff and I had to go in there again to change her jammies, and change her sheets, and change her diaper. She was trying to joke around about it, but we were not amused.
That was a completely exhausting day, both physically and mentally, and so I’m ready to zone out now more than ever. Pray for us tomorrow, because wow, this is difficult. Potty-training a strong-willed girl is work, y’all.
