This morning was rough at our house, trying to get everyone ready on time. Emerson was too tired from yesterday, and barely mad it out the door (and not without a few tears). And they were late leaving, so they had to take Emmie to school first, since it’s a little more important for her to be on time. So just a quick picture in the truck (which Dave is still graciously letting us borrow this week!), before dropping Emerson off.
Jeff picked me up for a lunch date today, and we hit up the Jason’s Deli salad bar for the third time in about a month. They have a special dill pickle pasta salad right now, and a dill pickle wrap (which I didn’t try), and I got the giant pickle cup today, filled to the brim with icy cold Diet Dr. Pepper.

After work and school, Emerson and I made a very quick visit to the Gilchrist 60th anniversary art show, so I could check out some of things she’s been working so hard on this semester.

Every kid in the school got to decorate a popsicle stick, and then they made a big “quilt” out of them, which they’ll put up in their media center when they renovate/redecorate soon.

And a favorite of the art night is always the glow in the dark art room, with all the glow in the dark art projects.

While Emmie and I were at the art show, Jeff picked up Addie, and we met up with them afterwards at Beignets & Brew. The plan was just to meet there in the parking lot, to avoid the craziness of the Gilchrist parking lot, but we ended up going inside to use their restroom, and then it evolved into more than that of course… I actually just stayed there with them for a few minutes, and then I left Jeff and the girls their on their own, where they ended up getting dinner. The girls shared a basket of chicken tenders and beignets and Jeff had a honey butter chicken croissant.

Meanwhile, I ran home to change clothes really quickly, and then I went downtown to meet friends at Proof, for a Survivor watch party! One of the contestants on the current Season 50, Christian Hubicki, is a mechanical engineer and robotics professor here at FSU/Famu, and he hosted a watch party there tonight! We managed to grab a table in the very crowded restaurant, and all ordered some dinner. I had the French onion burger with caramelized onions and cheese, and although it could have used some sort of sauce (a garlic aioli would have been perfect), it was really good.

It was so crowded inside the actual restaurant for episode viewing time, but we managed to find ourselves a little spot by the doors to hang out. Someone also gave us their stool, so Kayla and I took turns sitting on the stool for the last hour or so. (Kendra and her friend Anna were mainly just along for the ride, since they’re not really Survivor fans, so they headed out after dinner.) During commercials, they muted the show and Christian did Q&A time with everyone

And then once the episode was over at the end of the night, we were able to meet him and get a photo together! I also specifically wore my Frother’s Daughter shirt tonight, because he posted just a few days about going there, and then today they announced they have a special drink they created in honor of him, called Christian’s Campfire.

We’re hoping we can make arrangements to go back another time, and do it again, now that we know more about how the night works. (Like, we didn’t know they wouldn’t play the show outside on the patio, which is where we had been sitting for dinner.) It was a loud (very loud) crazy night, but we had so much fun!
Jeff got the girls in bed and to sleep on his own tonight, so I just got to snuggle them and love them once I got home. They were actually both in my bed, so I moved Emmie to her bed and sang her one lullaby, but she only woke up just enough to hug me back, and Addie didn’t wake up at all. I haven’t been out until 10pm in a very long time, and it certainly felt strange, but it was a great night!
