I had three sweet, happy girls this morning!
Addie was using her book as her paint palette, and “painting” things all over the house. And, Emerson was taking two more invites for camp friends. The RSVP list for her party tomorrow has been ever-growing!
Today was our “odd month lunch bunch” for our little unit at work. My girl Molly chose for us today, and we went to Nelson’s Burger Bar down off Gaines Street.
And look who’s here to spend a week with us! Ryan! He drove down on his own today, in his own big-boy truck, that he bought with all the money he made at his big-boy job at Discount Tire. The farthest he had ever driven before was like an hour and a half, but he made the 8-ish-hour drive today from South Carolina to here all by himself.
Emerson recently mentioned that she wanted her brothers to come for her birthday or birthday party, so I texted them that, and Ryan made it work to come down for the week. Gabe (who played sax & was the drum major for his high school marching band) was asked to come back and work with them part time, and next week is band camp, so he needed to stay there. We understand that though and will miss him, but we’re glad Ryan is here! He wanted to surprise the girls, so we didn’t tell them he was coming, but he went with Jeff to pick them both up from school today, and they were both so excited to see him!
Jeff’s parents met us out for dinner tonight to get to see Ryan, and we all tried a new-to-us place way over on our side of town. I’d heard rave reviews from both my brother-in-law and my uncle, and seen lots of good reviews on the Tally Foodies Facebook page too, so we finally made our way over to Summers Smokehouse. It’s only 10 minutes from our house down Highway 90, but we just hadn’t gone out that way to try it yet. But it was so good!
Literally all of us liked every single thing we ordered. We shared bites of this & that so we could all try as much as possible. I personally ordered the brisket sandwich with fried okra, and dang, both were super delicious! The kids cheeseburger was hefty, and way more than we expected. The kids grilled cheese was soo good and buttery. The sausage was super smokey, and the cheese grits were yummy as well. Jeff ordered a two-meat sampler meal (with pulled pork and catfish), with two sides, and it was a HUGE amount of food. There was live music and plenty of space and noise so that the girls could have fun and play around. Great local place, we’ll certainly be back again.
We got back in time right around bedtime, so we all settled in to watch a couple episodes of Bluey, and then Addie chose two or three books and brought them to her big brother to read to her for bedtime. And of course Emerson had to come over and snuggle up with us too.
Both girls love their bubba so much, and are very glad to have him here visiting, and so are we! Tomorrow is Emerson’s birthday party, so it’s gonna be a fun, full, busy, great day!
