So Jeff woke up not feeling so great, and my throat hurt a tiny bit, and we just decided we really needed a summer Saturday at home, for the first time in about two months. So we had a nice slow morning, and I made a very yummy bacon, egg & cheese casserole to get us started for breakfast.
Addie was very fancy in her mermaid dress-up dress, and had me put on her clip-on earrings as well, to eat her breakfast at our very fancy restaurant.
After we ate our breakfast, and the girls played for a while, we started working on some chores around the house. Nana also came over to hang out with us, and she was a huge help going through some of the girls clothes’ and rotating old stuff out and making donate piles and save-for-later-hand-me-down boxes for Addie of Emmie’s old stuff, and then putting stuff in drawers. I was able to get the living room cleaned, and Jeff got started on a whole bunch of yard work.
After a few hours of chores, and some chicken salad and pretzels for lunch, we went out to “swim” in our tiny backyard pool. It was super hot but Jeff set up a patio umbrella for us at one end, to provide some shade when needed. But I love the sunshine, so I stayed in the sunny end the whole time. And it was a great afternoon!
Jeff probably overworked himself with all the yard work this afternoon, but we kept getting him water refills with the electrolyte mix-in’s and energy mix-in’s, and he must have drank at least a gallon in a few hours. When he was finally done, we were already out of the pool and getting dressed and cleaning up, but he came and just plopped in the pool to cool off.
Nana did stay and hang out in the pool with us for a while, but eventually she went home and she got dinner ready for all of us to go over to their house. At her retirement party the other night, they had catering from The Wharf and all the leftovers were sent home with them. So she reheated all the good stuff for our dinner tonight, and it was still really good. And we didn’t have to cook anything, or spend any money, and that was quite a treat.
We made sure not to stay too late though, since the girls were super exhausted and getting cranky after a busy day and swimming time this afternoon. We needed to talk to Grammy when we got home, so we had a quick video call with her (and papa), until things started devolving into tears and hoopla and a cup of spilled water all over the entire kitchen floor…
Both girls were very sleepy and fell asleep very quickly and easily. And for that matter, so did Jeff! I just lit a brand new candle, and the living room is cleaner than it’s been all summer, so I’m going to just sit down and rest a little bit, but you know I’ll be falling asleep soon too myself.
