Spring Session

This morning ended up unexpectedly being kinda crazy. Jeff and the girls had to go to the gas station to fill up his car, so they grabbed breakfast sandwiches while they were there. But then I got a call from Emerson’s orthodontist’s office, saying her previously-broken twin block (retainer) had been repaired. So they squeezed us in for an 8am appointment to grab it, and make sure it fit correctly.

So they pulled into the bus ramp at NFC (a little easier to get in and out of than the main entrance), and I raced up there to meet them. Daddy snapped some sister pics in new matching shirts from Grammy, and then Emmie hopped over into my car. We ran over to the ortho office, and we were in and out of there in about 10 minutes.

One of the wires just kinda popped off about two weeks ago, so we dropped it off there, and they had to send it off to get repaired. Luckily, it was able to be repaired for free, rather than being replaced, which would have cost another arm and a leg… And so she’s back to her little mouth pieces again now!

After work and school today, I picked up both girls, and than ran back home. We made Emmie a PB&J sandwich, and she slurped down a go-gurt, and I grabbed a snack for myself as well. Then we left Daddy and Addie at home, and I took Emmie to the gym for the first night of the new spring session of gymnastics. She’s been moved up to the intermediate 2b class now, and the only other girls in her class tonight were about 14 years old, and much bigger than her, but kept being so impressed with all she was able to do.

I just got started on my next Kindle book, which is #20 in a long series about the Head of Homicide in Quebec, and I love this series. I started reading it in about 2017 or so, when there were about 10-ish books. It took me a while to catch up, but now she pretty much releases about one every year, and so I immediately put it on hold with the library so I can read it as soon as possible. (This one came out in October 2025, but it took this long for my hold to come through, because they’re so popular.)

Watching her climb these ropes always makes me nervous! She had already made it to the very tippy-top and was working her way back down, when I snapped this photo.  But you can still see how high she is, compared to the top of those tall doors.

This morning I had put some stuff in the crockpot for “crack chicken.” I know this was kinda “viral” like 10 years back or something, but this was the first time I made it, at least that I can remember… So when we got home at 8:15pm, Emerson and I could finally eat a real dinner! It turned out good, and was pretty tasty, but I didn’t love something about it (maybe the texture or something), but I don’t think I’ll make it again… especially since no one else in the family was too crazy about it.

And I did have a little bit of rice underneath the chicken mixture, so although the chicken was low-carb, the whole meal wasn’t exactly low-carb, but oh well…

It was very late by the time we finished eating and get everyone calmed down for bedtime, but Addison was asleep within the very first lullaby. Emerson was a little more keyed up after gym, so she took three or four songs to fall asleep, but by then, even Pennie was snoring softly too.

I am going to wash dishes for about two seconds, that’s about as much as I can handle tonight, and then I’m going to try to work on my puzzle. I’m down to the trees and skies, which are always the hardest parts, since it’s just so much of the same thing…

Or you know what, maybe the dishes can wait until tomorrow night…
