Jeff and I were both serving in church this morning (me singing on the worship team, and Jeff on the GC Kids tech booth), so the girlies both came early with us too (Emmie hung out with me, and Addie hung out with Jeff), and we had a great morning at church!
The whole church did big big group lunches all around town at six or seven different places, and our little group went back to Uncle Maddio’s for kids-eat-free Sundays. I got a one-top with bacon & some hot honey drizzle, and it was really tasty. My parents also joined us for lunch today, and the girls were “helping” Papa play a game on his phone after we all finished eating.
Then the girls and I went to Walmart for back-to-school supply shopping with Grammy and Papa. Huge shout-out to them for not only taking us shopping to help find everything (my mom even printed out the lists I emailed her, which was good since I forgot to print them), but also funded the whole operation. So obviously that was a huge help and a great blessing!
After an early morning, and being on the worship team, and a big lunch with a huge group, and school shopping (in a too-warm giant store), I was worn out! So on our way back across town, I went through Red Owl to get a giant frozen espresso drink for an afternoon pick-me-up. And this thing was delicious.
And since it was almost 4pm by the time we got back home, instead of doing a full-on nap, I made us just cuddle up on the couch to have some “movie rest time.” I found a little polar bear documentary on Disney+ for us that was nice and calm and it let me fall asleep for a little bit, even though the girls never actually did.
When I woke up, we spread out all the supplies on the coffee table, and portioned everything out to each girl (plus my fancy new set of pens that Grammy also got for me right there in the middle), and then got everything packed away in their new backpacks.
Jeff actually left right after church to head to work at one of his side-clients out of town, so it was just me and the girls this afternoon. And in light of that, we did a typical girl-dinner, of just butter noodles loaded down with tons of two kinds of Parmesan cheese. This little cheese gremlin climbed up on the counter to come steal little pinches of cheese while I was plating everything up.
We watched the Robert Downey Jr. version of Dr. Doolittle while we were eating dinner. Then afterwards, I started reading instead, while they watched more of the movie, and I finally finished reading “Sunrise on the Reaping.” It was devastating, but so so good. And makes me want to jump straight back into the Hunger Games book 1 again, when Haymitch is the mentor for Katniss, 25 years after he wins his game. I’ve re-read that original trilogy probably four or five times since they first came out, but it’s been a long time since the last re-read, so yeah, it feels like it’s about time again…
Since Jeff wasn’t home yet, I did bedtime for both girls in our bed, and just let them stay there once they fell asleep.
Jeff actually got home about 10 minutes ago while I was writing this post, so I’m glad to have him back home with us safe and sound. (I don’t think I mentioned before, but he had actually driven all the way over to Port St. Joe, so it was a little bit of a drive for him there and back today.) I’ve already set out five outfits for all week for both girls, and I washed dishes earlier while the pasta was boiling, so we’re pretty much set to start the new week. Gonna watch some tv with my hubby now, and then pack up my own little tote bag for work, with my new pens, and a new library book, and I’ll be good to go!
