Safe & Sound

Both girls are out of school tomorrow, so today was basically their Friday. So was spirit day for Emmie (wear red) and pastel day for Addie (and she had an egg hunt)!

Saw this picture posted on Facebook today from daycare, of a cute girl at her little egg hunt.

And then she was very excited to bring home her bunny ears hat and bag of goodies!

Made a delicious bowl of bow-tie pasta with meat sauce & lots of Parmesan cheese for dinner. And everyone cleaned their bowls tonight.

I loved her little side-pony her teacher did in her hair. And I loved the way she crossed her arms and stuck out her hip and had so much attitude, all just while chewing some food! She’s such a sassy little thing!

Addison found this little Encanto puzzle in the stack of puzzles by the table, and wanted to do it together after dinner. Emerson helped for about two seconds, and then gave up. But Addison stayed with me, and actually did help me with it. She even found and placed a few pieces on her own – she’s so smart!

Clapping for herself when she placed the last piece. And then showing off her big muscles like Luisa!

Jeff found me these Goldfish at Walmart like a month ago, and we finally opened them tonight to try out after dinner. And they are so good! They’re like the texture of tiny teddy grahams, with the flavor of butterscotch, and very yummy.

This goofy girl had herself all wrapped up from front to back in my giant blanket, propped up on a giant pile of pillows, sharing my snack with me.

And this baby bunny was eating sunflower seeds for her snack 🤣

Then we watched an episode of Bluey, and read a Bluey book at bedtime, while holding a tiny Bluey stuffy.

And then Emmie and I had some tandem reading time in her bed before she went to sleep.

Emerson is sound asleep, but Addison is still kinda tossing and turning with Daddy trying to keep her settled.

On a sad note, there was a shooter on FSU’s campus today at lunchtime. The whole campus and surrounding areas were put on lock-down (and even all the elementary, middle & high schools were put on lock-down too). Mine and Jeff’s buildings were close enough to be put on alert, and we were all watching the news and social media and getting texts from friends, as the whole thing unfolded. Unfortunately, it ended with two deaths, and six injuries, but the shooter was also taken into custody. Everyone in Tally knows people who either attend college at FSU, or people who work at FSU (likely both), so it was a scary and tragic afternoon for the whole city.

Emerson actually came home with lots of questions about her schools’ lock-down, and what had actually happened, and those were hard questions to answer. They’ve had drills like this at school before, but they knew today was different somehow (I think they overheard some of the college girls who work in after-school talking about it), and she was very concerned. It was a hard afternoon, and a hard night discussing that with her. Praying for my friends today who were there, and praying for the victims’ families…

It’s been weird to write the post like normal, and then talk about the tragedy that happened as well. But I guess that’s how life works. I’m just extra thankful for the safety of my family tonight, and having us all here under one roof safe & sound in our home.
